Yarde Metals is looking for a controller to work out of our corporate office in Southington, CT.
Responsibilities
The controller is responsible for overseeing and managing general accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and credit/collections. The controller's primary responsibility is the daily planning, implementation, management, and control of all financial-related activities. The position is responsible for the production of periodic financial reports, the maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, a comprehensive set of internal controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Ensure compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and GAP and maintain a documented system of compliant accounting policies and procedures.
- Review and manage the accuracy and productivity of daily activities of accounts payable, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, credits & collections, payroll, perpetual inventory integrity, fixed asset records and general accounting.
- Produce timely, accurate, and compliant records of transactions by implementing appropriate internal controls, policies, procedures, and audits across all departments.
- Perform, coordinate, and review activities related to month-end closing, including general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations, and branch accounting allocations of corporate overhead.
- Create accurate and timely reporting of monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial records to our Parent company and management team.
- Create KPI projections and interpret financial information to make business decisions related to expenses, sales, and operations.
- Work with executive management in the areas of sales, operations, and purchasing to assist in achieving and evaluating business goals.
- Assure financial plans are consistent with organizational goals.
- Recommend and develop improvements to the Internal Control system.
- Work with IT and management to recommend, direct, and manage enhancements to the company's ERP system and resolve systems issues.
- Prepare for and participate in all internal and external audits.
- Review and manage lease related activities for real property and commercial leases.
- Assist with financial activities related to the annual Cap Ex budget.
- Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipate future legislation; enforce adherence to requirements; and file financial reports.
- Hire, train, and coach associates and conduct performance evaluations.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance required.
- Seven years of experience related to the duties of the position in manufacturing or the metals service center industry.
- High level of attention to detail, analytical, and ability to solve complex problems.
- Working knowledge and experience with accounting principles and practices.
- Advanced mathematical ability and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and platform skills.
