Summary

Leads research, design, and development activities to improve NYPA's energy services. Designs, constructs, and tests equipment. Ensures that standards of quality, cost, safety, reliability, timeliness, and performance are met throughout all engineering activities.

Engineering, design, implementation and day to day operations of supervisory control systems (SCADA/EMS), networks, communications and machine control systems (PLC/DCS/HMI/RTU) in support of NYPA G&T assets.

Responsibilities
  • Provide lead engineer function in support of a wide range of real time control system projects, failure research, engineering studies, and operations and maintenance activities/practices.
  • Perform field visits to complete field inspections, condition assessments, and equipment evaluations and develop technical recommendations with moderate complexity.
  • Implement and execute NERC CIP and cyber securities policies, procedures, and technical solutions.
  • Select and apply codes, standards, and procedures to work tasks appropriately.
  • Independently coordinate cross disciplinary activities for the successful development and execution of projects
  • Perform inspections and evaluations to ensure engineering requirements and Authority specifications are satisfied.
  • Provide technical leadership in state-of-the-art engineering and analytical techniques.
  • Review designs, specifications, and reports produced by other internal engineers and external consultants.
  • Provide direction and review for the design and drafting personnel in the development of project drawings.

Site OT

  • Perform emergency response on a 24x7 on-call basis for facility real-time computing systems.
  • Hold work clearances, and coordinate work activities.
  • Assist with daily support of end-users of plant-wide business and local area network (LAN) systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient in the design, operation and maintenance of Operations Technology control systems specific to the electric utility industry.
  • Ability to apply diverse technical principles and practices, with an understanding of NYPA's policies, operations and objectives, to engineering deliverables.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented with ability to build relationships with vendors and stakeholders.
  • Ability to coordinate the technical and commercial aspects of projects.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations, and complete specifications, scopes of work, reports, and interdisciplinary design packages.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Working experience with Operations Technology systems such as: SCADA, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), RTUs (Remote Terminal Units), Firewalls, routers, network switches and HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces).
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects. * Capacity to lead or contribute significantly to project teams, including coordinating tasks and mentoring junior engineers or technicians.
  • Physical ability to navigate industrial sites, which may include climbing, bending, or working in confined spaces.
Education, Experience and Certifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of work-related experience.
  • Certifications in Computer Science such as Computer operating systems, Network technologies, Cyber Security, Database Administration, or Systems Administration is preferred.
  • NYS Professional Engineering (PE) License or the ability to pursue licensure, desirable.
  • Valid Driver's License
Physical Requirements
  • Approximately 20% travel primarily within NY State
  • Must be able to provide 24/7 on-call support to operating facilities.

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $104,000 - $140,000. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates' relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
