Location: This position will be on-site full-time in Newburyport, MA. The position holder will need to be within commuting distance (within 45 min).

CAD Designer Summary:

The CAD Designer performs a variety of duties to support new product development and manufacturing. This position works closely with engineering, internal/external tool shops, and manufacturing by providing finished tool designs, part drawings, layouts, prints, and manufacturing files to assist in the design of a finished part. They use their knowledge of SolidWorks, AutoCAD and other drafting tools to perform the duties of the position. The CAD Designer is responsible for assisting production through documentation to aid manufacturing as the need arises. Opportunities may be presented to program a CNC router or milling machine to machine prototype tools or foam or plastic products.

CAD Designer Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develops detailed tooling and / or equipment design drawings.
  • Works from concept sketches / drawings, samples and / or R&D plans.
  • Produces detailed prints of required tooling / equipment down to component levels.
  • Produces product print plans for customer approval.
  • Produces drawings for tooling changes or modifications from engineering change requests.
  • Acts as a working liaison with Project Engineers, R&D personnel, Automation team, etc. and discusses product details and requirements related to tooling / equipment design.
  • Provides finished tool designs, assembly or inspection fixture designs, part designs, layouts, and drawings for the internal and external tool shops as well as Engineering, Quality and Manufacturing Departments.
  • Works with engineers, customers, manufacturing and other personnel to assist in the design of products.
  • Communicates with machinists, purchasing, shop floor personnel and other UFP personnel as needed.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned or needed.
CAD Designer Qualification Requirements:
  • A.S. degree or equivalent combination of experience and education, and Mechanical design background.
  • Strong working knowledge of Solid Works required.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD 2006 or Higher a plus
  • Experience with surface modeling a plus.
  • Must possess a basic concept of tool design.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9000 and ISO 13485 preferred.
  • Advanced math skills, knowledge of foams, plastics, and their manufacturing processes a plus.
  • Knowledge of CNC processes preferred.
  • Knowledge of MasterCam a plus.
  • Strong documentation skills required.
