The Bloch Career Center, part of the Bloch School of Management, serves undergraduate and graduate students and alumni in business and public administration programs. Our focus is on preparing students to be career-ready leaders through high-quality career-related support and resources. We support students in defining and advancing their career paths by preparing them for the job search, fostering career success, connecting them with employers, and engaging alumni as mentors and advocates.

The Bloch Career Center partners closely across the Bloch School including, with admissions, Launchpad, academic advising, and academic departments. We also collaborate with departments and programs across the university and UM system.

Job Description

UMKC's Bloch School of Management invites applications for a Career & Professional Development (CPD) Manager in the Bloch Career Center. This position plays a key role in designing, delivering, and enhancing career development programs for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as alumni in business and public administration

The CPD Manager will lead the creation of career coaching initiatives and coordinate events such as conferences, seminars, and workshops on topics including proactive job search strategies, interview preparation, career assessments, resume writing, and salary negotiation. The role also involves providing individual and group career coaching, helping students and alumni evaluate their goals, interests, and values, and connecting them with relevant career resources and opportunities.

The CPD Manager will collaborate with colleagues and support career programming for Bloch's student clubs and organizations

Responsibilities include but are not limited to supporting students and alumni by:

Career Coaching:

  • Providing one-on-one and group coaching on career and professional development topics
  • Helping individuals identify career paths and goals aligned with their talents and interests
  • Reviewing resumes, cover letters, and other professional documents; offering feedback and tailoring support for specific roles
  • Conducting mock interviews to build confidence and readiness
  • Designing and delivering components of the career development curriculum
  • Expanding knowledge of business and public administration careers through independent research and employer engagement on and off campus

Workshop Development & Delivery:

  • Plan, organize, and facilitate career workshops, seminars, panel discussions, and networking events that meet the needs of students and alumni at various stages
  • Collaborate with faculty and instructors to co-design and deliver career content tailored to specific programs and industries
  • Partner with Bloch student organizations to support and implement career-related programming
  • Coordinate with campus partners to align Bloch Career Center programming with annual planning cycles and strategic communication efforts
  • Oversee mentorship engagement through the PeopleGrove platform

Data Management & Tracking:

  • Maintain accurate records of student participation in career events, supporting the Director in analyzing and reporting on engagement data
  • Maintain accurate records of internship and job placements, offer acceptances, and post-graduation outcomes in career services databases

Management:

  • Manage relationships with external consultants, including established industry professionals and career coaches
Shift

On-site office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Occasional work required outside of these hours for special events.

This position is eligible for hybrid-remote work scheduling (after 90-day training period) with supervisor approval.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least three (3) years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree with experience working as a career coach with business students.
  • Or, three (3) or more years of professional experience in private sector employee recruitment, HR, or business-related experience.
  • Communicate clearly in writing as well as give effective presentations to groups of varying sizes.
  • Familiarity with Qualtrics, PeopleGrove, Vault, 12Twenty, Jobscan, Lightcast, uConnect, Handshake, LinkedIn, and applicant tracking systems.
Anticipated Hiring Range

$55,000 - $65,000 annually commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity
