The Patient Access Registration Team Lead reports to the Patient Access Manager, the ED Registration Team lead is responsible for performing various functions within the Patient Access Department that requires full understanding of the ED Arrival & Registration processes at Suburban Hospital (SH), and continuous improvement of these processes, data entry, Insurance verifications and collection of Co-pays. The Registration Team Lead employs a collaborative style, uses great communication and interpersonal skills, and has a keen sense of organizational skills, multitasking and prioritization to deliver successful outcomes.



The Patient Access Registration Team Lead's primary responsibilities will be to oversee and guide the evening registration team, providing support and guidance on patient registration, admissions and related processes. The team lead shall also act as the liaison between the ED Clinical/Non-Clinical staff and ED patient Access Registration staff when necessary. The Lead will also ensure that patients receive excellent customer service during related activities.

Experience/Requirements:

A minimum of 5 years of relevant hospital access, Patient Registration and Customer service.

Knowledge, Skills: & Abilities



  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Critical thinking and demonstrates leadership abilities in order to address issues identified within the department, required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required to communicate effectively with co-workers, patients and insurance companies including on the telephone.
  • Proficient in data entry, and demonstrates the ability to retrieve, store, save data and print.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology is preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel


Essential Functions:



  • Responsible for providing guidance and assistance to registration staff on the evenings/night shifts.
  • Perform daily rounding of Evening/Night Shift registrars to make sure they have what they need to effectively perform their duties and also address any concerns.
  • Monitor and coordinate daily evening shift operations, ensuring smooth and efficient work flow and minimizing patient arrivals and registration wait times.
  • Also performs routine checks to make sure that the registrars are following the proper protocols in the arrival and registration of patients
  • Demonstrates professionalism and leadership qualities, incorporating our Core Values in their interactions with patients, physicians, clinical/non-clinical staff and other guests.
  • Assist with ED patient arrivals and registrations in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Promotes respect for patient privacy by maintaining confidentiality in all phases of patient arrival and registration processes. Ensure all arrival and registration processes adhere to departmental policies, regulations, and procedures, and maintain accurate patient information.
  • Takes part in the interview and selection processes of new registration team members.
  • Acts as a mentor and onboarding coach to new hires in providing hands on training and guidance, ensuring they become proficient in all aspects of the registration process.
  • Reviews error trends that have been identified and informs and assists department manager with changes or modifications when necessary.
  • Keeps abreast of current regulations relating to patient registration and safety compliance. Attends applicable internal and external educational sessions.
  • Works closely with the ED charge nurses and patients' nurses to ensure a seamless patient experience.
  • Escalates issues to the Manager related to potential regulatory/statutory compliance associated with registration processes, works with management to implement solutions.

Salary Range: Minimum $24.60/hour - Maximum $40.61/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
