JOB SUMMARY:

Working under the general supervision of the Supervisor, LPG Delivery or direction of the Supply & Delivery Coordinator independently performs work from written/verbal orders following specific policies/procedures/methods involving the operation of a flatbed truck to deliver LP gas filled cylinders to customers premises, connects cylinders and tests in accordance with established procedures.



Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Picks-up cylinder delivery schedule and special instructions, as applicable from the Supply & Delivery Coordinator; organizes route based on delivery itinerary and makes required preparations for delivery. Organizes route and loads required gas-filled cylinders from loading dock onto truck.
  1. Performs pre-trip check on truck as specified by D.O.T., completes required forms (Driver's Vehicle Inspection Report (CDL), fuels, checks trucks for general operating requirements, and ascertains that all required equipment is available and in good operating condition.
  2. Drives truck to customer's location, unloads cylinders using hydraulic tail gate and delivers cylinders with hand truck to installation site. Disconnects empty cylinders, reconnects filled cylinders, and tests connections with soap and water solution. Relights appliance pilot light replaces leaking regulators as required. May accept cash payment and is accountable for same.
  3. Loads empty cylinders onto truck and returns to the recharging station receiving dock and unloads empty cylinders. Picks up discontinued customer's cylinders when required.
  4. Returns to the Yard at the end of workday, performs post-trip check, notifies Supervisor or Coordinator if repairs are necessary, and sets chock block. Completes and submits Daily Truck Inspection report, completed/not-completed delivery orders, and cash payments.
  5. Maintains and refills cylinders. Inspects cylinders for serviceability and checks for certification compliance; re-inspects and re-stamps cylinders in accordance with NFPA regulations where required. Inspects, fills and delivers composite exchange cylinders to various retail locations; maintains and is accountable for correct inventory in exchange cabinets.
  6. Maintains assigned work areas/cylinder delivery truck and/or its equipment in a clean, orderly and safe operating condition; performs housekeeping chores as required and/or directed.
  7. Provides and extends at all times a courteous and tactful demeanor when dealing with all customers and the public. Responds to customer inquiries as qualified or refers customer to proper Company sources. May advise or instruct consumer in the proper and efficient operation of their appliances/equipment.
  8. Complies with and enforces all safety rules, regulations and practices in effect and established/adopted by the Company. Promotes safety, safe work habits and good housekeeping to include the reporting and rectifying, as qualified, any unsafe conditions or act. Maintains all EH&S training on a current basis. Performs emergency response function as required; effectuates emergency repairs and/or shuts-down gas supply when appropriate/necessary. Stands-by at the site when necessary until properly relieved by appropriate personnel.
  9. Performs clerical/administrative duties such as documenting work on all applicable company forms, preparing and submitting reports, inputting data into computer program, etc.
  10. Performs as a Tank Truck Driver where qualified and when required.
  11. Performs related work as required and/or directed. Makes emergency deliveries as required; installs temporary hook-up for out-of-gas tank customers.


Qualifications

Minimum Education & Work Experience:

  • Preferably a high school graduate with technical schooling.
  • Completed all required Department of Transportation Federal/State and OSHA Federal/State and NFPA courses and programs. Must maintain at least minimum passing scores per regulations, for all recurring Federal/State courses or programs.
  • At least one year successful and progressive experience in work with LPG in the job duties described, based on normal progression. These experience requirements may be reduced at management's discretion with approval of the V.P. Human Resources based on need and for the individual who demonstrates exceptional ability and skills to perform the duties of Cylinder Delivery Driver.
  • Must be a safe and competent driver, cognizant of all traffic laws and have a clean traffic abstract; must not have an unsatisfactory work history of accidents as determined by management.
  • Basic knowledge of pertinent codes, regulations, standards and safety rules such as NFPA #58 and #59 in addition to standard practices and procedures.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of departmental operating rules and procedures and be proficient in the proper use of the tools, materials, and equipment of the trade.
  • Requires a high degree of mechanical aptitude and a good safety record.
  • Ability to use computers.

Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation:

  • Must possess a valid Class B, CDL license with Hazardous Material endorsement with no restrictions on air brakes or transmission type, and valid Medical Examiner's Certificate per 49 CFR 391.41 through 391.49.
  • Must be qualified for and retain required security certifications such as TWIC and AOA, or other clearances required by governmental agencies.
