Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, the Associate Manager of Strategy - Development plays a key role in supporting and advancing Deriva Energy's renewable development initiatives across wind, solar, and battery storage technologies. This position works closely with the broader development team to lead strategic planning efforts, evaluate new market opportunities, and drive execution of high-impact projects. The Associate Manager will contribute to shaping the development pipeline by integrating market intelligence, policy insights, and financial analysis to inform investment decisions and project prioritization.

This role is responsible for managing the annual state strategy process, identifying and tracking key market trends, overseeing the development budgeting process, and implementing robust development controls. The Manager will also play a key role in shaping the company's long-term growth by building a roadmap for business expansion and supporting cross-functional alignment across the organization.

This position is critical to Deriva Energy's ability to scale effectively and deliver on its clean energy mission. We are seeking a highly motivated, analytical, and collaborative individual with a strong understanding of renewable energy markets and a passion for driving strategic impact.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the annual state strategy process to identify and prioritize new wind, solar, and battery storage investment opportunities across key U.S. markets.

  • Track and analyze renewable energy market trends, regulatory developments, and competitive dynamics to inform strategic planning and investment decisions.

  • Manage the development budgeting process, including forecasting, tracking, and reporting on development expenditures in coordination with finance and project teams.

  • Implement and oversee development controls, including tollgate review processes, MS Project scheduling, and other governance tools to ensure disciplined project execution.

  • Develop a strategic roadmap for business expansion, identifying new markets, technologies, and partnerships aligned with Deriva's long-term objectives.

  • Collaborate across functional teams, including finance, engineering, regulatory, and commercial-to ensure alignment and execution of strategic initiatives.

  • Support senior leadership with data-driven insights, scenario planning, and strategic recommendations through high-quality presentations and reports.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to enhance development processes, tools, and cross-functional collaboration.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering or other related discipline

  • In addition to the degree above, five (5) or more years of experience

  • In lieu of bachelor's degree, high school diploma/GED AND 10 years or more years of related work experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in utility-scale renewable energy development

  • Extensive knowledge of wholesale electricity markets, interconnection process, real estate contracts, tax abatements and renewable energy technologies & policy incentives

  • Proven experience developing and successfully building renewable energy projects.

  • Demonstrated project success in PJM and SERC markets

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, optimistic self-starter

  • Financial and business acumen, business strategy, executive level presentation

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the desire to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and to meet deadlines and complete time-sensitive duties

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a flat organization, successfully leveraging the expertise of multiple colleagues in different lines of reporting

  • Ability to multi-task and arbitrate between conflicting priorities

  • Ability to take ownership over tasks and work proactively.

  • Excellent communication, project management and team-building skills experience working with cross- functional internal and external technical advisors and stakeholders.

Working Conditions

  • Regionally based with preference given to those in Charlotte, N.C.
