The Senior Risk Manager - Data Risk Validation, is responsible for developing and performing independent validation activities to ensure the effectiveness and compliance of our data risk management practices. Responsibilities include establishing and implementing the 2nd Line of Defense data risk validation framework, validation procedures, risk-based methodology, controls testing, and validation reporting. This leader will have a deep understanding of risk and data management principles, excellent analytical skills, and a proven ability to work independently and provide valuable insights to senior management.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the 2nd Line of Defense (2nd LOD) Data Risk Validation Framework, aligning it with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Establish policies, procedures, and guidelines for independent validation activities across the organization.
  • Ensure that the data risk validation framework is effectively integrated into the overall risk management framework, policies, procedures, and processes
  • Proactively identify opportunities to streamline, automate and enhance our data risk management practices, processes and controls, and validations
  • Design and document validation procedures that effectively assess the adequacy and effectiveness of data risk management practices and controls.
  • Develop and apply a risk-based methodology for prioritizing and selecting validation activities based on their significance and potential impact.
  • Define and refine the validation strategy to drive breadth, depth and velocity or assessment activities.
  • Use data about validations to drive risk profiles to target testing efforts
  • Own the quality and consistency and auditability of the validation results and written reports performed and developed by Data Risk Governance Office
  • Plan, execute, and document controls testing activities to assess the design and operating effectiveness of key risk controls.
  • Direct the selection of testing targets, conducting of testing and analytics, validation and effective challenge data management controls, systems, and processes within the lines of business across KeyBank
  • Conduct in-depth analysis and evaluation of control deficiencies, providing recommendations for remediation to address identified gaps.
  • Identify areas of improvement and make recommendations to enhance data risk management practices and controls across the 1st line of defense
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure timely resolution of control issues.
  • Analyze validation results performed by staff to proactively identify data risks and trends
  • Prepare comprehensive validation reports summarizing the findings, observations, and recommendations resulting from independent validation activities.
  • Communicate validation results to senior management, highlighting areas of concern, emerging risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist in the development of action plans to address identified deficiencies and track the implementation of remedial actions.
  • Engage with key stakeholders, including risk owners, business units, and other risk management functions, to foster a collaborative environment and promote a strong risk management culture.
  • Provide guidance and support to stakeholders regarding risk management practices, validation requirements, and remediation actions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities and/or activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice
  • Complies with all KeyBank policies and procedures, including without limitation, acting professionally at all times, conducting business ethically, avoiding conflicts of interest, and acting in the best interests of Key's clients and Key.

Education Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Risk Management, Finance, or Business Administration. A (required) and
  • Master's Degree Advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., FRM, CRISC) are preferred. (preferred)

Experience Qualifications
  • 7+ years Progressive experience in risk management, with a focus on independent validation, preferably within the financial services industry. (required)

Tactical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of risk management frameworks, methodologies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of either data governance, data analytics, systems development, systems testing, or data risk management best practices
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing risk-based validation frameworks, procedures, and controls testing methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to critically evaluate complex processes and identify control gaps.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and quality in all deliverables.
  • Proficient in using risk management tools, software, and data analytics platforms.

Practical Skills
  • Analytical Thinking: Champions the use of business intelligence applications for tactical and strategic decisions; designs and orchestrates the use of business analytics for strategic decision making and employs statistical and quantitative analysis, explanatory, and predictive modeling techniques
  • Data Analysis: Leads discussions on current and new practices, processes, and technologies used in business analytics; predicts industry trends and marketplace developments relevant to data analytics and acts accordingly

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $150,000 to $175,000 annually depending on location and job-related factors such as level of experience. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for short-term incentive compensation and deferred incentive compensation subject to individual and company performance.
