Job Summary

The Social Connections and Treatment Lab, within the Life Course Outcomes Research Program, at the A.J. Drexel Autism Institute is seeking a full-time Research Associate I.

Essential Functions

The Social Connections and Treatment Lab, within the Life Course Outcomes Research Program, at the A.J. Drexel Autism Institute is seeking a full-time project coordinator to contribute to the management a 3-year funded research project that aims to identify the and examine various methods for effectively facilitating discussions among autistic individuals, their families and caregivers, and mental health providers around behavioral intervention practices, and to guide future behavioral intervention research priorities for autistic individuals. This role includes coordinating a multidisciplinary team, assisting in the development of a novel engagement approach, and community-engagement efforts. It also includes managing processes, procedures, data collection and management, and reporting for a clinical trial. This individual will also contribute to organization and administrative efforts and autism research outputs (including research project design, manuscript-writing, grant-writing, and community presentations).



  • Coordinate communication, meetings, and output of the Leadership team, community partners, and collaborators
  • Assist in the development of a novel community engagement approach
  • Manage the co-development of community engagement approaches and assessment tools for engagement
  • Oversee the preparation and delivery of planned community engagement groups
  • Coordinate travel and accommodations for participants and all project-related activities
  • Conduct participant screenings, surveys, and qualitative interviews
  • Coordinate the co-development and delivery of a national survey
  • Help maintain and manage datasets, and maintain clear and detailed documentation necessary to maintain databases and analyses and ensure team accessibility
  • Oversee implementation, management, data collection, and reporting requirements for a clinic trial
  • Maintain meticulous and well-organized records related to internal and external communications, project management, analyses, databases, and all other aspects of the job
  • Supervise student research assistants and research coordinators, as needed
  • Develop positive collaborative relationships with colleagues at Drexel University and external stakeholders; communicate professionally and in a timely manner with collaborators
  • Assist with, submit, and manage federal and local regulatory compliance activities, including IRB protocols, progress reports, and all required submissions
  • Participate in the dissemination of research findings via preparation of abstracts for presentation at scientific conferences and manuscripts for peer-review publication; contribute to preliminary data for grant applications
  • Other project activities as assigned by the PI


Required Qualifications



  • Minimum of 3-5 years of in research coordination, clinical trial management, data collection, and/or stakeholder engagement. This can include experience acquired during academic research (e.g., undergraduate) or community-based activities.
  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Education, Public Health, or related field. or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Familiarity with participatory or community-engaged research approaches
    Experience working with autistic individuals and/or related stakeholders
  • Strong organizational, task management, project management, event planning, and/or communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experiencing working with and/or evincing appreciation for the role of lived experience in the context of research activities.
  • Master's degree with at least 1 year of experience
  • Experience contributing to the development and implementation of autism-focused research efforts, with a focus on practical data collection and engagement practices.
  • Experience with detailed and timely reporting to collaborators, funders, and governing bodies.
  • Knowledge of clinical trials and regulatory compliance
  • Skilled in the development and oversight of clinical trials
  • Proven ability in managing project budgets and related tasks
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently and collaboratively as part of a team in a fast paced, high growth environment.
  • Demonstrates strong compassion and support for autistic people and their families.
  • Proficiency in applicable quantitative and/or qualitative research methods.
  • Detail oriented, extremely organized, and comfortable with multitasking.
  • Familiarity with accessibility practices
  • Possess excellent oral, written, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills.
  • Capability within Microsoft Office programs including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade I. Compensation for this grade ranges from $41,120.00 to $61680 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
