Job Summary

The Coordinator, Employee Relations serves as a key liaison between supervisors, employees, and HR leadership to address and resolve employee relations matters. Provides expert guidance on conflict resolution, problem-solving strategies, and regulatory compliance. Promotes a collaborative work environment by facilitating informal resolution of workplace concerns through effective communication, mediation, and conflict management techniques.

Job Description

Typical duties include but not limited to:

  • Provides specialized, professional consultation and training to supervisors and employees on employee relations, performance improvement and employee disciplinary issues. Maintains corrective action monitoring and follow-up with managers on steps within the process.
  • Guides managers and employees throughout the performance management process. Collaborates with supervisors on the development and review of supporting documentation for corrective actions and performance management. Produces impartial and thorough Performance Improvement Plans in partnership with the manager.
  • Audits existing processes and workflows, augment, streamline and refine as required by law, policies, regulations, and human resources initiatives.
  • Develops, refines and maintains employee relations tracking systems; collect and analyze employee relations data and prepare periodic reports.
  • Interprets and explain policies, procedures, and regulations related to employee related issues.
  • Provides in-service training and facilitates meetings, workshops, and seminars for the purpose of supporting employees. Serves as a resource to the campus community.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires either six years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Human Resources, or closely related field and two years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Professional, full-time experience in Human Resources or closely related field.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook) software.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years professional, full-time experience in Employee Relations, Human Resources or closely related field.
  • Two years consulting experience with demonstrated ability to influence, coach, and build relationships with employees and leaders across all levels of the University.
  • Previous project management experience with strong attention to details to efficiently and simultaneously manage multiple projects to completion.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations.
  • Foundational knowledge and understanding of employment and HR-related laws, regulations, policies, principles, concepts and practices.
  • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
  • Ability to listen and make decisions based on the facts.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.
  • Ability to diffuse and respond professionally to stressful situations and difficult people.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff, faculty and students and the community in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of discretion, integrity, and sensitivity with the utmost sensitivity and confidentiality.
