We have an exciting opportunity for a Technician III, Engineering in our Cary, IL manufacturing facility. This position will report to the Sr Manager, Engineering and Industrialization. This position is responsible for supporting Molding, Engineering, Quoting and Go-To Lab projects using skills in plastic injection molding, rapid prototyping and technical knowledge in tooling. This is how your journey begins
- Produces parts for sample testing and material evaluations. Supports Customer Service and Marketing sampling activities. Samples colors for customer color match purposes
- Completes mold installations and conversions. Completes changeovers to components to run different parts in same mold
- Performs mold maintenance and prototype mold repair
- Develops and maintains weekly molding schedules within PMCS Prototype Scheduler and maintains sample lab schedule board current.
- Supports quoting activity by sending RFQs to vendors as directed and creates and archives quote summary sheets.
- Serves go-to lab initiatives by making fast 5 and fast 50 parts.
- Follows Scientific Injection Molding to set up prototype molding presses to run and document processes
- Project Management of new and existing prototype mold builds and mold maintenance - works with external suppliers to deliver tools as scheduled on-budget and on-time
- Consults on new and existing part and mold design optimizations
- Performs quality checks of parts to prints
- Maintains proper identification of tooling components
- Maintains mold inventory and numbering system (BOM management)
- Maintains new and revised tooling, along with drawings and files
- Expedites the creation and delivery of new and revised tooling from tooling vendors
- Maintains Prototype Mold Design Standards
- Sets-up and leads prototype mold design reviews ensuring both press requirements and part design requirements are met
- Supports internal 3-D printed parts fabrication and post-processing and finishing
- Performs evaluation of new prototype mold vendors
- Performs housekeeping and maintains a safe work environment
- Maintains resin, colorant and additives material inventories
- Assists in updating engineering drawings per approved change requests as needed
What you will bring on the journey Education
- High School degree or GED
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of working injection molding plastics processing experience, preferably in a Process Technician capacity
- Minimum 5 years Project Management experience preferred, including management of external vendors
- Minimum one year experience on a 3D CAD package.
Skills
- Must be able to obtain (Big Joe) pallet jack license
- Must possess good communication skills - written and oral
- Must possess basic to intermediate computer skills including basic experience with Solidworks or equivalent.
- Must be able to generate 160 foot pounds of torque on mold clamp bolts using a 24" torque wrench
- Must be able to work safely around molding machines
- Must be able to hear warning signals and verbal alerts to avoid injury during manufacturing process
- Must be able to lift loads up to 65 pounds from floor level to above waist
- Must be able to reach machine and auxiliary equipment controls, and climb on presses
- Must be able to read, write and speak English in order to communicate and understand relevant information relating to quality and production issues
- Must possess basic math skills and good mechanical aptitude and ability use MS word and Excel
- Requires visual acuity and ability to detect visual changes in plastic under a microscope
