Overview
LMI is seeking a talented Classified Communications subject matter expert (SME) for Space data transport in Colorado Springs, CO. The Classified Communications SME is the go-to expert on all matters relating to advanced communication systems and capabilities including advanced waveform phenomenology and algorithms for Space Data Network (SDN). The Classified Communications SME also ensures the accurate detail of all aspects of end-to-end, space to ground communications throughout the development, implementation, and execution of analytical studies to inform future Satellite Communications (SATCOM) and data transport mission and capability area force designs, ensuring reliable and secure systems across all platforms. This role also involves strategic planning informed by models, simulations, and analyses of other technical products and efforts. Responsibilities
Provide direct support to the Space Warfighting Analysis Center's (SWAC) Spectrum Warfare Program (SWP) in Colorado Springs, CO, to identify the integrated suite of capabilities to fulfill USSF imperatives to preserve the United States' freedom of action in space
- Possess knowledge in the areas of command and control (C2), advanced waveforms, digital signal processing, network translation, data transport, data processing, data storage, data dissemination and data routing.
- Coordinate classified communications architecture recommendations that are informed by modeling, simulation, and analysis to articulate into mission area, capability area, or system level performance parameters as well as assist with the advocacy of recommendations to the Service, Joint force, and acquisition organizations.
- Recommend investment priorities and inform science and technology investment strategies
- Capture and recommend force design dependencies, interdependencies, and opportunities (academia, commercial, civil, Joint, intelligence community, Allied and other government organizations)
- Ensures requirements of the force design fulfill Joint requirements and warfighting scenarios
- Interface with Service, Joint Staff and USSF Field Commands on behalf of SWAC SWP
- Support innovative ways to leverage new technologies, latest technical trends and commercial best practices to employ space capabilities in support of the joint warfighting community
- Apply advanced technologies, scientific principles, theories, and concepts to develop novel classified communication architectures and solutions.
- Assist the client in developing mission area and capability area resilient communication architectures and approaches.
- Using Physics-based modeling, simulation, and analysis tools, leads and prepares analytical and design optimization studies to inform architectural trades
- Frequently interact and develop productive relationships with program managers, SETAs, FFRDCs, and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 10+ years of professional experience or Master's degree in a STEM field with 8+ years of professional experience.
- Have technical depth and breadth of all space capabilities, particularly proliferated architectures, Satellite Communications (SATCOM) (e.g., Narrowband, Broadband, and Resilient SATCOM, Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3), and higher order communications that leverage radiofrequency (RF)-Optical capabilities), data landing and dissemination and incorporate science & technology advancements, innovative ideas, industry best practices, and capability development trends into force designs.
- Significant background in satellite communications including Space-to-Space communications, NC3/ITWAA, agile multispectral technological solutions, survivable communications planning and modulation techniques
- Strong understanding of radio frequency (RF) design, advanced waveforms, digital signal processing, network topology design, terminal and protocol standards, software-defined radios and antennas
- Ability to work within integrated Government, FFRDC, UARC, and SETA teams.
- Able to work independently as well as collaboratively across multiple disciplines in a fast paced, dynamic environment - work primarily performed on client site
- Strong organization and communication skills, verbal and written.
- Ability for occasional travel (less that 10% anticipated)
- Active Top Secret Government security clearance. US Citizenship required.
Desired
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Fifteen plus (15+) years of SATCOM Joint operational planning experience and requirements development
- Understanding of orbital mechanics
- Experience in Research and Development using Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) methodology for orchestrating transition planning of recommended architectures
- Demonstrated strong technical leadership, interpersonal, and team building skills.
- Exhibit high level of ingenuity, intellectual curiosity and systems thinking
- Active Top Secret/SCI or Special Access Program (SAP) Government security clearance.
