Responsibilities

Crisis Intervention Specialist

FULL TIME

Under the direction of the Principal of Innovations Academy, the Crisis Intervention Specialist (CIS) provides students with educational and behavioral programs that will enable them to reach their fullest educational potential, while rebuilding their self-esteem. The CIS will be part of a team responsible for oversight of:

* The school crisis plan

* Responding to students in crisis

* Enviornmental action plans

* Provision of regular CPI/Verbal de-escalation training and daily debriefing

* Consultation with teachers and paraprofessionals on improvement of classroom management and transitioning based on data collected through CARES scanning or crisis documentation

The CIS will also be available to provide individual student care support, effectively review and modify student Behavior Intervention Plans, coordinate and input school crisis data for team review, and be available as a resource with IEP development and district IEP meetings. This position will be a strong link between the Risk Management/Performance Improvement department in regards to intervention review, follow-up processing and training.

Innovations Academy is part of the Streamwood Behavioral Healthcare System. SBHS is a 178-bed acute care facility located in Streamwood, IL and has been providing mental health treatment to the Chicagoland community and the state of Illinois since 1991. Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Knowledge of educational, child development and classroom teaching/management theories with a good understanding of educational and therapeutic interventions is preferred. Qualification as a certified CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) trainer is preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: I.S.B.E. Paraprofessional certificate (and / or an ISBE Substitute teacher - Type 39 certificate) is required. Primary Source Verification is required.
