Job Overview

The Director of User Experience Design for Loyalty, Personalization, and Recommendations at Macy's Inc. serves as an enterprise leader who defines the user experience strategy and execution for online customer engagement across a broad portfolio of digital experiences at Macy's and Bloomingdale's, including web and app. This leader oversees a team of user experience designers that delivers enterprise-wide initiatives that span the entire digital user experience, including credit card acquisition and engagement, loyalty, product recommendations, Macy's Media Network, marketing technology, and personalization.

What You Will Do



  • Lead and develop a team of user experience designers by coaching and guiding them to deliver digital experiences that meet both customer and business needs.
  • Envision future channel user experience for Macy's and Bloomingdale's Loyalty and Personalization for web and app that meets long-term and near-term business goals and user needs (e.g., KPIs and user success metrics).
  • Effectively collaborates with executives, managers, product managers, engineers, and researchers to define, conceptualize, and design user-facing products.
  • Partners with the UX leadership team to define the channel experience and to ensure deliverables are consistent with the user experience design vision.
  • Work through channel design problems from beginning to end: conceptualize new products and features, design storyboards, workflows, interactions, wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and design standards based on business goals and user research.
  • Champion the user experience design throughout the company and contribute to making it an essential process for improvement and innovation.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and thought leader on user experience design across the company (including assigned channel, the CX organization, and other organizations), as well as the broader design community (e.g., presenting at conferences, writing articles, teaching, etc.).
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.


Skills You Will Need

Enterprise Leadership & Strategic Vision - Ability to define and drive the user experience, vision, and digital customer engagement across Macy's and Bloomingdale's portfolio.

Expertise designing for web and app - Deep knowledge of designing for mobile apps and responsive web experiences; well versed in user interface design processes and methodology, including user-centered design.

Cross-functional collaboration - Skilled at partnering with technology, marketing, merchandising, and analytics teams to deliver integrated product experiences that drive customer loyalty and personalization.

Customer-Centric Mindset - Deep understanding of customer behaviors and preferences to shape personalized experiences that enhance engagement and lifetime value.

Data-Driven Decision Making - Expertise in leveraging customer data, analytics, and experimentation to inform product roadmaps, measure impact, and optimize recommendations.

Influencing & Negotiation - Ability to influence senior leaders, brand partners, and cross-functional stakeholders to align product goals, secure resources, and drive execution.

Agile Product Delivery - Proficiency in agile methodologies to lead experience designers through continuous delivery cycles, prioritizing features based on business value and customer impact.

Team Leadership & Development - Experience managing and mentoring high-performing experience designers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and growth.

Who You Are



  • 10+ years of UX/UI design experience across consumer applications with a focus on driving growth and engagement in both web and native app platforms.
  • 6+ years of developing and directly leading successful teams.
  • BA/BS in Design Required, preferably in UX-related fields of HCI, Industrial Design, Product Design, Architecture, or Graphic Design. Master's degree preferred.
