Duties and Responsibilities |
- Perform assigned experiments under the primary direction of the Principal Investigator (includes design, preparation for, and execution of experiments, followed by data analysis and figure preparation).
- Serve as the laboratory compliance manager (maintains, updates and spot-checks records relating to general lab protocols, lab animal use and disposition, controlled substances, and chemicals/laboratory safety).
- Provide guidance to students, research assistants, and research residents on best laboratory practices (e.g., proper lab notebook maintenance, general record keeping, and data analysis).
- Attend to general laboratory matters including, but not limited to literature searches, supply inventory/purchases, interaction with sales representatives, participation in development of manuscripts.
- Responsible for general maintenance of lab ordering, restocking, organization/inventory of materials (including archived biospecimens), cleaning, filing, preventative maintenance and repair of all instrumentation.
- Serve as initial point of contact for lab members regarding problems/complaints lab members have regarding materials (including experimental materials, computer issues, timing issues for their work).
- Monitor and instruct new lab members and summer students, provide instruction on how to correctly record and analyze results.
- Serve as liaison with vendors and provides research on equipment and consumable products, including their associated protocols.
- Perform other duties as required. |
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience |
Minimum Education: Required: Bachelors Degree Preferred: Masters Degree Specify Degree(s): Biological or physical sciences Minimum Experience: Required: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience Preferred: 3-5 years of previous job-related experience |
Qualifications |
Minimum education: Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred
- Job experience: 6-10 years or Master's degree with experience
- Familiarity with scientific graphing and statiscal software packages
- Familiarity with microscopy and/or other imaging techniques, including use of associated software for analysis
- Strong written and verbl communication skills
- Good time management skills
- Experience with university/academic procurement/purchasing systems and procedures |
