Position Overview

Position Summary

Eastern New Mexico University-Ruidoso is seeking a full-time bilingual (Spanish/English) faculty member in Early Childhood Education. This is a key instructional and student support role that combines teaching responsibilities with academic advising and program development. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a full course load (12-15 credit hours per semester) in both Spanish and English, maintain 10 hours of on-campus office hours weekly, and serve as an academic advisor for students pursuing degrees or certificates in education. The faculty member will also contribute to curriculum development, licensure alignment, and student success initiatives across the Education program. A consistent on-campus presence is required to support instruction, learning, and advising.


Requirements

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach a minimum of 12-15 credit hours per semester (fall and spring), including early childhood and foundational education courses.
  • Provide instruction in both English and Spanish, depending on course and student needs.
  • Maintain 10 posted office hours per week on campus for advising, mentoring, and supporting students.
  • Customize and update course syllabi and instructional materials aligned with program standards and licensure requirements.
  • Design and deliver courses that meet Quality Matters (QM) standards; complete QM training within the first year of hire.
  • Provide academic advising to education majors, supporting student retention, academic planning, and licensure pathways.
  • Actively engage in student recruitment and support activities for the Teacher Education program.
  • Submit all required documentation and reports on time, including syllabi, rosters, grades, and assessment data.
  • Participate in department, campus, and community events, including serving on campus committees.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • At least 18 graduate credit hours in education.
  • Demonstrated oral and written fluency in both Spanish and English.
  • Experience teaching or working with linguistically and culturally diverse populations.
  • Ability and commitment to teach in-person and online courses.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching early childhood or elementary education courses in higher education.
  • Knowledge of New Mexico licensure pathways and early childhood workforce requirements.
  • Experience advising or mentoring college students.
  • Familiarity with online teaching platforms and technology integration.
  • Experience with bilingual curriculum development and assessment.
  • Commitment to supporting first-generation, rural, and bilingual learners.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to provide leadership and support for early childhood education programs, ensuring instruction is inclusive, high-quality, and aligned with institutional goals.
  • Ability to serve as a key advisor for education majors and collaborate with the Department Chair of Education on program development.
  • Ability to maintain strong communication with students, colleagues, and community partners to support degree completion, licensure preparation, and workforce readiness.

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a consistent amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Work is performed during normal work hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines
