Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Quality Inspection Technician to work on our MFC Quality Control team. Our team works 4x10 schedule located out of our Materials & Fuels Complex (MFC) facility at the Desert Site with every Friday off.

You will perform technical quality control (QC) tasks in support of the mission of the facility in which one is working (including materials, fabricated items, components, equipment, parts, etc.) Use technical skills to conduct in-service tests and surveillance activities, to ensure compliance to customer, engineering, quality standards, and regulatory requirements for the given item being evaluated. Perform nondestructive examination (NDE) as required per the inspection plan. Provide input to the Quality Engineers in the design of new or modifying of existing inspection processes including insight into unusual measurement needs. You will report to the manager for our MFC Quality Control team.

Responsibilities Include:



  • Provide technical support to quality engineering on various experiments, set up and operate a variety of inspection equipment.
  • Provide independent quality assurance inspection and surveillance functions in compliance with policies, procedures, customer requirements, and/or work control plans at INL and subcontractor facilities. Inspections may consist of visual, mechanical, electrical, electronic, welding, dimensional, and/or other related reviews of products, materials, or drawings.
  • Ensure items are within calibration and suitability for use of the measurement equipment being used.
  • Perform work to instructions provided in inspection planning packages and as directed by management.
  • Provide support in various administrative functions such as non-conformance reporting, tracking, trending, assessment, and records management.
  • Review materials and equipment received or fabricated against purchase/design specifications to ensure acceptability.
  • As required operate material handling equipment (forklift & overhead crane) as needed in the commencement of duties.
  • Communicate clearly any issues found to the quality engineering team.
  • Provide consultation and technical assistance to quality engineering staff on the correct application of inspection discipline and technique.
  • Assure that work is compliant to requirements by verifying and validating work performed by others.
  • Mentor other technicians as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:



  • Level 4: High School diploma or equivalent and at least 6 years direct professional experience.
  • Level 5: High School diploma or equivalent and least 6+ years direct professional experience.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.


Preferred Experience:



  • NDT Certificate or another Vocational Certificate.
  • Associate degree in technical field from an accredited institution.


Job Information:



  • The pay range for this position is: Level 4 ($30.17 - $49.78) / Level 5 ($35.30 - $58.23). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.


Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires the operation of office equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required.
