The Registered Nurse (Employee Health) is responsible for providing professional nursing care through the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role supports the health and safety of Milford Regional employees by promoting physical and mental well-being and preventing illness and injury in the workplace.

I. Major Responsibilities:

Program Collaboration and Oversight
1. Collaborates with management and environmental health staff to support employee health and safety objectives.
2. Maintains logs for OSHA, JCAHO, and other regulatory reviews.

Injury and Illness Assessment
1. Provides initial assessment and first aid for on-the-job injuries.
2. Coordinates care and follow-up for work-related health events.
3. Offers health counseling within nursing scope and follows up with employees and managers.

Pre-Placement Health Screenings
1. Conducts screenings per hospital policy, including immunization review and surveillance testing.
2. Ensures timely completion of physicals and clearance for new hires.

Health Promotion and Education
1. Implements health promotion strategies such as flu campaigns and TB screening.
2. Plans and supports injury prevention initiatives.

Case Management
1. Differentiates between occupational and non-occupational cases.
2. Coordinates with workers' compensation carriers and internal stakeholders.
3. Acts as liaison among hospital departments, insurance, and providers.

Policy Development and Confidentiality
1. Contributes to policy and protocol development.
2. Maintains confidentiality of employee health records and communications.

Service Evaluation and Compliance
1. Evaluates services provided to employees and collaborates with providers.
2. Maintains OSHA and needle stick logs and reports data at meetings.
3. Documents all care and outcomes in employee health records.

Professional Development
1. Attends relevant conferences and seminars.
2. Networks with peers and maintains CEUs.
3. Shares knowledge with colleagues.

Age-Specific Competency
1. Applies knowledge of growth and development stages to patient care.
2. Demonstrates age-appropriate communication and support.

II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education

Required:
1. Registered Nurse
2. Current Massachusetts RN license
3. Current CPR certification
Preferred:
1. Bachelor's degree in Nursing
2. Certification in Occupational Health Nursing

Experience/Skills
Required:
1. Minimum of 3 years of RN experience
2. Computer proficiency and strong interpersonal skills
3. Organizational and communication skills
4. Ability to maintain confidentiality
Preferred:
1. Experience in employee/occupational health
2. Background in community health, ambulatory care, critical care, or emergency nursing
3. Knowledge of case management, workers' compensation, and related regulations

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
