Minimum Qualifications
Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of work experience on a University Campus preferred.
  • First aid/CPR certification preferred.
  • Two years supervisory experience in a campus setting preferred.
  • Two or more years of security, police or military experience preferred.


Position Summary
The Night Facilities and Security Coordinator for the Miller Learning Center is responsible for providing administrative, logistical, and security support to facilitate the work of all facets of the building. This includes but is not limited to monitoring the access control and alarms for building operation, assisting with supervision and scheduling of student security staff, communication of building or security issues with appropriate campus units, assisting in the coordination of events, support of special events and projects as they arise, and various administrative tasks in support of the building operations. It is expected that incumbent will interact regularly with key personnel, such as the building partners ( CTL and EITS), Campus Reservations, UGA Police Department, and Environmental Safety Division.
This position reports to the Assistant Department Manager (Facilities and Security Manager) of the MLC; work is performed independently on the basis of a general assignment of the responsibilities. This position involves reliability and trustworthiness, the exercise of quick, independent, and sound judgment and independent initiative in applying resolution to emergency situations that arise.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Basic knowledge of building operations and support.
  • Familiarity with security procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to make successful, professional and positive contacts with officials, students, and the general public.
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, train and supervise staff.
  • Familiarity with security systems and/or camera surveillance systems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Skill in using software packages for office use, statistics generation, or event and classroom scheduling.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize and prioritize routine and special project work.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deescalate situations and bring about a peaceful resolution desired.
  • Ability to productively balance multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Basic knowledge of minor maintenance tasks and ability to use hand tools.
