The Product Test Engineer is responsible for the execution of the testing and calibration requirements for the R&D testing and calibration laboratory.
Responsibilities * Responsible for the execution of testing and services of the Lab * Provides technical assistance to ensure accuracy of testing, analysis, calibration, and reporting to the customer * Validate engineering by identifying and testing to appropriate Kimball and external standards * Responsible for conducting testing and calibration in accordance with the quality system * Provide support to product line management, engineering and design in new product development, engineering changes and process improvements * Support PDP and NPI processes * Work with PLM, Engineering and Quality to resolve product field performance issues * Develop new internal product performance standards and test methods to meet changing product use conditions and new product markets * Develop new material performance test standards and test methods * Support PLM, field sales and customer service with product performance technical inquiries * Work with engineering and corporate risk on field liability risk issues * Responsible to facilitate testing with outside labs * Conduct facility tours of the testing lab for guest services * Complete projects in a timely manner * BIFMA Committee work Skills to Perform This Role Interpersonal Skills * Honest and ethical * Extreme attention to detail * Team oriented * Tactful, assertive, flexible, patient and trustworthy * Positive attitude * Creative thinking * Ability to build and sustain relationships * Analytical trouble shooting capabilities * Ability to keep humor in the workplace * Strong strive for success Technical Skills * Knowledge of engineering sciences and practices * Knowledge of product performance standards: ANSI, BIFMA, ASTM, ISO, ISTA, UL, CPSC, etc. * Knowledge of materials test methods: ASTM, ISO, etc. * Demonstrates capability with BIFMA and UL standards * Knowledge of calibration methods * Understanding of mechanical and physical properties of various materials; metals, plastics, wood, etc. * Understanding of PDP, NPI, and EC processes * Knowledge of product testing and material testing methodology and techniques * Understanding of failure mode and effects analysis and design for manufacturing/assembly * Understanding of sustainability and product design * Ability to perform root cause failure analysis * Knowledge of ISO 17025 quality system requirements Communication Skills * Good listening skills * Good written, verbal, presentation skills * Ability to communicate technical issues * Represent Kimball in difficult business and technical discussions with customers Leadership Skills * Good organizational skills * Good team building skills * Initiative * Respect for others point of view Business Skills * Can prioritize and handle multiple tasks appropriately to meet business needs * Ability to follow standard practice and procedures * Good time management * Understanding of role in the company * Knowledge of furniture industry * Understanding of financial fundamentals The ideal candidate would be located near our Jasper, IN headquarters and work primarily from this location. |
