Loudoun County Department of Family Services seeks a dedicated and experienced professional for a Senior Adult and Aging Intake Specialist position. The successful candidate will join the Adult and Aging Unit within the Department of Family Services which envisions better health, safety, and well-being for all. We support individuals and families in the community to live their best lives while advocating for those most vulnerable and respecting their right to self- determination.


Job Summary

This position provides high-quality customer service, receiving requests for service for older adults or adults with disabilities, screening reports of adult abuse, neglect and exploitation and serves as a leader on the Adult and Aging team.

  • Provide courteous and timely customer service.
  • Provide information and referrals to outside services when appropriate.
  • Screen APS calls to include determining report validity and response time.
  • Monitor and answer calls from both the APS and Adult Services phone systems.
  • Coordinate with AAU staff, APS-CPS hotline team and other partners to ensure timely response to APS reports and requests for AAU services.
  • Complete unit reports and statistics
  • Document all calls and correspondences timely within the appropriate system and mandated timeframes.
  • Educate the public about Adult and Aging Program services.
  • Assist and train coworkers, provide technical guidance; explain program policies and procedures.
  • Serve as supervisor in supervisor's absence.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data entry into required systems.
  • Assist staff with policy interpretation relative to eligibility for services, report validation and response time determination.
  • May perform other essential job functions specific to the position and department assignment.

    Hiring salary commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required, with major coursework in a Human Services field preferred; AND, three (3) years of directly related experience in a human services area.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Adult Protective Services/Adult Services programs and procedures.
  • Knowledge of social work theory, casework methods, and community organization/resources.
  • Understanding of human behavior and the behavioral sciences, particularly concerning human development, aging, family dynamics, and interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to engage in sensitive discussions with clients about various aspects of their lives.
  • Capacity to respond effectively in crisis situations.
  • Demonstrated capacity to listen well to receive and address complaints and concerns.
  • Demonstrated capacity to reason and problem-solve complex matters.
  • Master's degree in Social Work, Gerontology, or a related field.
  • Experience working in local government or a department of social services.
  • Bi-lingual skills in Spanish and English.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Job Contingencies:

  • Pass pre-employment background checks to include criminal, credit, CPS/APS, and DMV.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).
Special Requirements:
  • Hold or obtain certifications such as CPR if required for assigned position.
  • Obtain specific training such as CPS/Foster Care/APS state training as required or desired for assigned area.
Bi-lingual skills in Spanish and English preferred.
