Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has immediate opportunity for a Process Control Engineer at our Burns Harbor, Indiana operation. The Process Control Engineer is part of the Maintenance, Engineering, and Utilities Division and is responsible for working directly with a large variety of computer systems responsible for environmental compliance data collection and steel shop event tracking.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Working directly with a large variety of computers, instrumentation, and related control equipment.

  • System Support Activities - maintenance and problem-solving of all aspects of mill process automation systems. Modifications to automation systems to adapt to new inputs, or to implement new ideas for continuous improvement to the manufacturing process.

  • Addressing issues that may impact production or system reliability.

  • Real-time computer control and monitoring of steel mill processes including maintenance of computer hardware and software, design and installation of new computer control systems and modernization of existing systems.

  • Administering operating systems and databases.

  • Working with networking technologies, high-speed data transmission, and specialty interfaces.

  • Development, implementation and maintenance of computer models for mill processes of a chemical, metallurgical or mechanical nature.

  • Project work - assignments on new installation or modernization projects with participation in activities such as planning, engineering design, hardware configuration, software design, development and testing, and new system start-up.

  • Being well-informed of quality and reliability issues.

  • Working with vendors on products and performance issues.

  • Keeping abreast of projects and activities performed by the Research group.

  • Staying current with technology advancements in industrial controls.

  • Various other duties as needed to support the business.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of engineering experience in an industrial environment.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or other relevant engineering field with extensive programming skills

  • Knowledge of and experience with modern programming languages such as C#, Java, JavaScript and SQL.

  • Basic understanding of computer networking and routing.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of advanced control theory and the ability to create, modify, and troubleshoot complex logic.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Manufacturing or steel industry experience.
