Riverside Overview

Riverside Research is an independent National Security Nonprofit dedicated to research and development in the national interest. We provide high-end technical services, research and development, and prototype solutions to some of the country's most challenging technical problems.

All Riverside Research opportunities require U.S. Citizenship.

Position Overview

Riverside Research is seeking a AI/ML Engineer with a general background in machine learning and artificial intelligence with exceptional customer interaction and business development skills to join a dynamic, growth-focused Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Lab. The Lab performs research and development focused on providing solutions to the Defense and Intelligence Communities. As a key member of our Open Innovation Center, the research scientist will execute as well as assist in growing opportunities with government research organizations (e.g. DARPA, IARPA, service labs, etc.), perform on our corporate-wide Independent Research & Development (IR&D) efforts in artificial intelligence and machine learning, manage existing R&D contracts, and transition technology into our other business units. The AI/ML Engineer will work with team members located in the Dayton OH, Washington DC, New York City, and Boston office locations.

This position is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in coding and data analysis who is eager to gain experience in high-impact human performance research. In this role you will receive mentorship from a team of senior scientists with expertise in cognitive modeling, machine learning, and physiology.

Responsibilities

    Assist with agile software development
  • Investigate and resolve system and software anomalies
  • Develop prototype AI/ML algorithms and associated software tools using Python and the Python/TensorFlow API
  • Train AI/ML models and tune their hyperparameters for a given dataset and algorithm objectives
  • Visualize hyperparameter optimization spaces with Tensorboard for selection of optimal parameters for a given parametric (functional) TensorFlow model
  • Provide customized solutions to data quality control that ensure accurate functional mappings for AI/ML algorithms on complex remote sensing datasets.
  • Develop databases for organizing both structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Apply machine learning and general computer vision best practices and methods to analyze and exploit large, complex remote sensing datasets from a variety of remote sensing phenomenology.
  • Keep up with the SoTA practices for AI/ML, perform relevant R&D, and implement new and innovative ideas in machine learning and high-performance computing to solve long-standing remote sensing "big-data" exploitation problem.
  • Contribute and adhere to the AI team's standards for reviewing and unit-testing code, lead or participate in team-wide code reviews, and adhere to standardized documentation practices.
    Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Mathematics, Physics, Complex Systems, or related discipline).
  • Proficiency in Python programming, with demonstrated experience in scripting for data analysis and working with scientific libraries.
  • Hands-on experience with data analysis and simulation development, including signal processing (e.g., filtering, artifact rejection, time-series alignment) and/or machine learning model development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment, taking direction while contributing technical insight.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, especially for documenting code, processes, and preliminary findings.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance in the future.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of multi-modal AI/ML and data fusion including graph, text, signal, and time-series modelling to uncover hidden patterns in heterogenous data.
  • Knowledge of complex and dynamical systems analysis on networks including ability to detect couplings, assess stability and emergence in both cyber-physical architectures and social systems.
  • Knowledge of model-based systems engineering including SysML2.0, G-code / CNC pipelines, digital twins and closed-loop control for autonomous platforms
  • Knowledge of large-scale agent and stochastic simulation including operational, financial and cognitive environments informed by computational psychology and sociology.
  • Knowledge of optimization and prescriptive analytics with a red-team mindset including mission-aware composition routing and disruption algorithms under real world hard and soft constraints.
  • Current Secret or higher security clearance

Global Comp

$70,000 - $120,000 This represents the typical compensation range for this position based on experience, location and other factors.
