Job Description: The Lead Software Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Franklin, Wisconsin will design technical solutions of new insurance products, enhancements to existing products, and product changes needed for regulatory and tax compliance. Drive all stages of software development lifecycle including analyzing, designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting software solutions. Analyze actuarial calculation routines and product rules for life and disability insurance products and establish validation approaches for various product changes. Organize business case discussions, document business drivers, and provide potential solutions. Develop a unified servicing platform strategy in partnership with enterprise architects to deliver Omni-Channel capabilities and enhanced end user experience. Perform required business domain analysis, identify REST APIs necessary to deliver core insurance servicing capabilities, and analysis of technical options to migrate applications from legacy platforms to modern technology stack. Define standardized test engineering strategy for end-to-end execution for new product rollout and implementations. Identify process controls and technology solutions to prevent PII data entering in non-production environment. Serve as engineering point of contact to resolve technical impediments and review technical deliverables of engineering teams. Utilize mainframe technologies including PL/I, DB2, JCL, and HostScope. Act as subject matter expert and guide risk servicing engineering teams with necessary domain knowledge, impact analysis, design decisions and planning, sequencing of engineering work and with production issue analysis and root cause identification and resolution. Telecommuting permitted up to 2 days per week. Salary $131,893- $252,200 per year.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field plus 6 years of experience as a software engineer or related occupation. 6 years of experience must include 5 years of experience in each of the following: (1) analyzing, designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting software solutions; (2) developing technical vision, system flow diagrams, design specifications, and system appreciation documents; (3) establishing standards for mainframe systems on test driven development and continuous integration practices; (4) improving operations by conducting systems analysis, recommending changes in policies and procedures, and addressing system issues; (5) mainframe technologies including PL/I, DB2, JCL, and HostScope. Must also have one year of experience in event-driven and REST API-based integrations and cloud architecture patterns.
