Job Summary:

The Food Safety & Quality (FSQ) Senior Specialist - Quality Management Systems (QMS) & FSQ Data Analytics is responsible for the digital platforms that support SunOpta's quality management system and leading data-based analysis that generates actionable insights to enhance food safety and quality performance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food safety standards, quality management systems, and data analytics, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights that drive continuous improvement.

Essential Functions of the Job:

Own QMS Software Systems



  • FSQ leader for the implementation of SunOpta's new QMS solution. To include migration, and integration in collaboration with IT and the FSQ organization.
  • In collaboration with the QMS solution provider, develop SOPs, work instructions, and training for the QMS software with a focus on identifying clear standards, processes, and roles and responsibilities.
  • Train cross functional teams on the QMS software in collaboration with the QMS solution provider.
  • Lead the administration of QMS software including adding new users, making changes within the system, submitting support tickets, and supporting upgrades.


Lead FSQ Data Analytics



  • Provide data-driven insights to identify opportunities early, support decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) for the FSQ organization.
  • Develop dashboards, visuals, and reports within Power BI and/or the QMS to monitor KPIs and trends.
  • Follow company GMP's (good manufacturing practices), safety procedures and all other food safety & quality processes.
  • All other duties, as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities:



  • None.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biology, Data Science or related technical field.
  • 5+ years' experience in food manufacturing, food safety and quality, or related.
  • Experience with QMS platforms (i.e. DevEx, TraceGains, Intelex, FoodLogiQ, etc.) and data analytics tools (i.e. Power BI, Tableau, Excel, etc.).


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Certification in PCQI, HACCP, or GFSI schemes (SQF Practitioner).
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with AI or predictive analytics in quality systems.
  • Experience with system migrations and providing technical support.



Knowledge and Skills:



  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated experience working with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and data visualization.
  • Self-directed, intellectually curious, continuous improvement mindset, and results oriented.
  • Proficiency (or capacity and willingness to learn?) in creating/administering Power BI dashboards.
  • Familiarity with FSQ practices: QMS systems, NCRs, CAPAs, root cause analysis, audits, workflows, and approvals.
  • Demonstrated personal and work team organization skills.



Additional Considerations:



  • 10% travel to SunOpta manufacturing sites on a sustaining basis, potentially up to 25% travel during QMS system deployment.
  • The role may be located at the SunOpta Headquarters Office in Eden Prairie, MN or a SunOpta manufacturing facility location.
  • Relocation or international remote working arrangements (outside of the US) will not be considered.
