You'll play a key leadership role at Smithfield Foods as the Director of Procurement for Transportation & Warehousing. In this position, you'll be responsible for setting the strategic direction of our procurement efforts across critical logistics and supply chain categories. These include all modes of Transportation, Warehousing, Third-Party Logistics (3PL), Material Handling Equipment (MHE), Operational Supplies, Pallets, and other areas essential to our supply chain operations.

We're looking for someone with a strong background in leading strategic sourcing functions, deep category knowledge, and the ability to work effectively across functions. Your experience in driving cost efficiencies, ensuring supply continuity, and building strategic partnerships will be essential to delivering long-term value to the organization.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a multi-year sourcing strategy for Transportation, Warehousing, and associated logistics categories aligned with overall supply chain and corporate objectives.

  • Category & Market Expertise: Serve as the enterprise expert on logistics and warehousing procurement, with deep knowledge of industry trends, cost drivers, and emerging technologies to anticipate market shifts and mitigate risk.

  • Stakeholder Engagement & Influence: Build and maintain strong relationships with senior business leaders across Operations, Finance, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to align sourcing strategies with enterprise priorities and operational needs.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Lead cross-functional sourcing and transformation initiatives, partnering with stakeholders to deliver scalable solutions, supplier innovation, and end-to-end value optimization.

  • Supplier Strategy & Performance Management: Develop robust supplier management frameworks, ensuring strategic partnerships, performance tracking, and continuous improvement across key supplier relationships.

  • Cost Optimization & Risk Management: Identify and implement strategic cost reduction initiatives while ensuring business continuity, supply assurance, and compliance with risk and governance frameworks.

  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Drive a culture of continuous improvement and innovation through supplier engagement, technology adoption, and process optimization.

  • Talent Development & Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of sourcing professionals, fostering a high-performance culture and developing future procurement leaders.

WHAT WE'RE SEEKING:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 10+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.

  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development is required.

  • Experienced in contract negotiation, including development of negotiating plans and strategies across a broad range of Corporate Services, required.

  • Progressive experience utilizing strategic sourcing methodology, required.

  • Strong influencer, experience in acting as a lead by providing training, guidance or mentoring to less experienced staff or managing processes and projects, required.

  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

  • Must be willing to travel a minimum of 20%

OTHER SKILLS THAT MAKE YOU STAND OUT:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Experience with eSourcing tools.

  • Excellent PC skills: MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), SAP.

  • Ability to demonstrate proven results.

  • Experience with "Strategic Sourcing Techniques" such as managing value stream, lean concepts, contractual alternatives, and buying theories.

  • Strong project management skills in support of cross functional team activities.

  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.

  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.

  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or equivalent experience preferred.
