Business Process Expert (BPE) - Master Data Smith+Nephew is undertaking a multi-year Global ERP Program upgrade and a business process standardization, to deliver the implementation of a common/single business across the global core business functions of Manufacturing Operations and Commercial businesses. The effort will provide Smith+Nephew with a major step change in capabilities, by creating a platform that will strategically enable the business to address major pain points such as harmonized business processes and data driving towards a single source of truth, excessive manual work and lack of automation, being able to operate by predicting rather than reacting, reducing an existing highly customized and complex working environment and simplifying our IT landscape thus improving Smith+Nephew business support functions, support simpler mergers and acquisitions, master data management and integrations into the rest of the business including the supply chain. The areas of business covered: Demand to delivery (D2D) including demand planning, MRP and capacity scheduling, MFG execution, Batch management, Quality management, GR from MFG, Packaging and labelling, Plant maintenance, and Related material data Order to cash (OTC) including Order management, Order fulfilment, Distribution, Warehousing and Transportation, OTC reporting, AR & billing, and Related master data Procure to pay including Sourcing, Contracting, PO transactions, processing and Transmissions, Invoice & reporting, Subcontracting and inter-company and Related master data Record to report (R2R) including Financial planning and consolidation, Cash Management and Treasury, Manufacturing Finance, General ledger, AP, AR, FA, Tax (direct and indirect), Management Accounting, Financial structures, and Related master data Other tracks and services such as Reporting, Master Data, Quality assurance, Archiving, Security and controls To provide a specific focus on developing and delivering a Global SAP-enabled Business Process Template for Smith and Nephew, a dedicated team of Global Business Process owners has been established. The GBPO team will be supported by many Smith+Nephew SMEs (Subject Matter Experts). Position Summary Reporting to the GBPO - Master Data the role will have a significant and dual focus. The first is to support business process standardization across our enterprise in the areas of Master Data Management and Governance, and the second is to help support any ERP upgrades, specifically ensuring master data records are of quality status that is "fit for use" and properly controlled and sustained inside SAP instances. For business process standardization, the Business Process Expert - Master Data is required to support the GBPO and GBS teams in identifying and documenting all current state processes as part of the greater Smith+Nephew taxonomy, ultimately aligning each entity towards a common future state for both process and ERP (and other) system-level changes. The BPE-Master Data is responsible for partnering with business SMEs for all changes to the process in pursuit of a standard business process. This is facilitated through a strong Community of Practice, Design authority, and collaboration on an ongoing basis while delivering value for the business. In this role, there is an expectation to deliver significant business benefits. The BPE-Master Data also is responsible for the completion of all project designated deliverables in their functional workstream and integration points including the development or validation of the enterprise design that is suitable for all S+N business functions, the process maps and business blueprints, testing and validating the solution, data and archiving, testing and regression testing, validation and quality assurance and supporting change management. This individual will participate in a team of internal and consulting resources and is responsible for supporting the maintenance and the design and delivery of the standard process for their workstream and all activities in between as dictated by the program methodology and plans. Finally, this role will be responsible for acting as a "change agent" for their workstream, subject matter expert in Material Master record management and functionality in SAP instances, data lineage of the associated attributes, and supporting all Organizational Change Management activities as dictated by the program methodology and plan. . Essential Function Template Design & Business Process Maps
- Support of the Master Data GBPO for Master Data on ERP migrations and deployments
- As a data steward, partner with Business SMEs (Citizens), Global Business Services and IT (Custodians) to develop requirements for the Master Data design, and ensure all requirements are met toward a standardized solution, ensuring the system and processes are fully compliant and validated
- Accountable for the Master Records (with emphasis toward SAP ECC6 MM, VM, etc) enrichment processes and associated efforts toward global harmonization, including the design and template activities and deliverables supporting the drive towards harmonization across the business
- Support the external system integrator in all activities relating to design, data, and quality delivery for the Master Data workstream. Holding the system integrator to account for this workstream.
- Support the implementation of all activities relating to the integration of processes and systems relating to their workstream space
- Implement all design decisions relating to Master Data workstream master data and support the data conversion and data archiving activities that follow from the data model design
- Closely manage and own the master data records that are integral to custom and relevant RICEFW (Reports, Interface, Conversion, Enhancements, Forms, and Workflow) with the absolute aim of keeping this to a minimum, to best practice and standard; all customisation will follow a standard escalation and governance approval process; provide guidance to leverage alternate, existing data repositories to support business need
- Manage and own all reporting needs for the master data workstream space and the overlap and interaction with our global reporting platforms, such as UDP.
- Ensure master data records inside the UDP have proper quality levels and controls to allow for self-servicing by Data Citizens
- Accountable for all deliverables and documentation associated with the Quality workstream, maintaining accuracy and relevance and strong revision control, and appropriate approval signoffs within the agreed project SLAs
Change Management
- Support the global program OCM methodology and process for the Master Data workstream
- Act as the "change agent" for the Master Data workstream
- Ensure design and deliverables are aligned with project objectives and global program objectives for the Master Data workstream
- Ensure any changes to attribute standards and governance are cross-functionally aligned and documented to sustain data quality and completeness
- Identify and escalate the resolution of change management and cultural issues
- Institute global, cross-functional communication and approval channels as a part of the BAU processes for attribute updates and introductions
- Utilize your deep understanding of SAP solutions to drive overall operational and delivery excellence
- Collaborate with the functional teams and stakeholders to understand and define business needs, partnering with IT teams to translate into requirements & propose solutions
- Author functional specifications for material master enhancements and configurations
Testing
- Generate test scripts and supporting script execution/documentation for the testing and regression testing scope for the Master Data workstream, including supporting all activities around ERP projects.
- Test and regression testing using the program designated tooling as the system of record, documenting as required to ensure proper system validation; specifically, System Integration Testing and User Acceptance Testing
- Oversee master data script execution and assist with System Integration Testing (SIT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including troubleshooting during SIT/UAT and once in production
- Support the identification of super users for participating in the various test phases, training on the new system functionality as well as required tools such as HP-ALM and the GPO methodology for recording defects through to defect resolution
Training
- Support the global program training strategy and needs
- Train and support the Super Users in the localization of training material, and where necessary, support language needs
- Steward record enrichment and completeness aiding in problem resolution during implementation and Hypercare.
Management
- Steward, manage and optimize SAP Material Master data, ensuring accurate integration with manufacturing, purchasing, and production planning
- Steward change control processes for master data and governance processes to maintain record quality
- Work with and support the PMO in all planning activities
- Participate actively in the Design Authority and all escalation bodies
- Manage all status reporting and communication vehicles as designed and dictated by the global program PMO function for the Quality workstream
- Provide input and support for the relevant Steering committees
- Become an integral part of the master data workstream, supporting record stewardship and lineage in SAP and various interfacing systems
Requirements Education
- Education or related work experience in the functional area of work stream
Licenses/Certifications
- SAP Certifications in relevant modules (such as SAP MM and BOM maint)
- Agile Certification a plus
Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years of data steward change management and governance responsibilities
- Expertise/working experience withing SAP Manufacturing modules, including SAP MM
- Experience in Master Data Management including finance, operations, and supply chain
- Understanding of medical device industry material product structures and manufacturing stages
- Ideally around 5+ years at S+N in an SAP user, steward or custodian role
- Demonstrated success in working with data teams and IT. Strong process orientation, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to interface and partner with peers at multiple organizational levels
- High degree of self-motivation and good communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated experience in performing under tight timelines
- Strong project management skills, particularly concerning the organization, prioritization, and time management
- Understanding of Agile methodologies, a plus
- Experience using Signavio a plus

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role at Smith + Nephew. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
