Access & Operations is responsible for the opening, closing, and security of our three buildings on the main campus. We perform general maintenance and some custodial services. We coordinate with campus entities and outside contractors, manage space projects, and provide support for library events. In addition, we are responsible for stacks management, reserves, printing services, equipment circulation, and the circulation desks. We facilitate access to the educational and research resources needed by our users through our Interlibrary Loan and Scanning services and provide multimedia expertise, services, and content at the Multimedia Resources Center (MRC). We take pride in being the faces of the libraries for people who visit in person to use our spaces and services and strive to provide a welcoming and inclusive experience.


Your Role on the Team

Under general supervision of the Langson Library Circulation Manager, the incumbent is responsible for all functions at the Langson Library Check Out Desk. Assists the Langson Library Stacks Lead. Serves as backup for all Access Services service points. Provides assistance for Interlibrary Loan when needed.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • 2-3 years of related experience in an academic or public library or relevant education and training.
  • Knowledge of library systems (e.g. Alma, Primo, OCLC, etc).
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills.
  • Skill working with and knowledge of bibliographic searching techniques.
  • Working knowledge of office productivity software (e.g. Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to handle emergency situations in a professional manner following the Library's emergency and security procedures.
  • Skills to work independently, follow through on assignments, meet deadlines, be flexible and satisfy workload priorities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, with the public, supervisors and coworkers.
  • Skills to consult and work on projects which are interrelated within department units or other library departments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to oversee student assistants.
  • Ability to interact diplomatically with a culturally diverse population of library users.
  • Ability to work effectively with frequent interruptions and distractions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive issues and patron information.
  • Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equality, and inclusiveness within UC Irvine Libraries and the campus.
  • Ability to apply and adhere to library policies and explain them to patrons.
  • Demonstrated record of punctuality and regular work attendance.
  • Working knowledge of circulation systems.

Preferred:

  • General knowledge of UC Irvine campus departments and their services.

Special Conditions:

  • Regular Hours of Work M-F. Must be available to work evenings and weekends. Schedule is dependent on the Libraries' building hours. Hours are subject to change whenever building hours change and during intersessions and summer sessions. Will be required to work extended hours during pre-finals and finals.May be scheduled to work on holidays in rotation with others.
  • This position is subject to a background check.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $25.74 - $27.42 (Hourly).
