Clinical Research Coordinator/Community Health Worker (CRC/CHW)

The Mass General Hospital Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Center is one of four healthcare systems awarded a PCORI grant for the study titled 'Study Leveraging Community Partners and Remote Blood Pressure Monitoring to Control Hypertension and Eliminate Health Inequities,' also known as Pressure Check. The research team is seeking to hire an individual to enroll participants from community-based organizations (CBOs) to test remote blood pressure management and access to a trained Community Health Worker (CHW) are effective approaches to improving blood pressure control. This study is being conducted in communities that are predominantly comprised of Black, Hispanic, or low-income residents with higher rates of hypertension.
The clinical research coordinator (CRC/)CHW is an integral member of the Pressure Check multidisciplinary research team and will report to the PI and investigative team. To reach individuals in safe, trusted locations, the CRC/CHW will partner with contracted CBOs including, local barbershops, beauty salons and faith-based organizations in the greater metropolitan Boston area to provide blood pressure education, blood pressure screenings, study enrollment, and assess socioeconomic barriers. The CRC/CHW provides connections to care and actively works to identify low-cost resources while also serving as an advocate to help address socioeconomic barriers. Changes in blood pressure will be tracked and shared with the Pressure Check research team. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Indicate key areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position. QUALIFICATIONS: (MUST be realistic, neither overstated nor understated, and related to the essential functions of the job.) Bachelor's degree in health education, community or public health or allied health or related fields required with fieldwork and patient-facing experience encouraged. Experience in clinical research encouraged and willingness to be trained in protocols associated with IRB, CITI or equivalent certification, and data management. Quality improvement experience is helpful. Must be able to freely travel to several sites within the greater Boston metropolitan area. Multilingual preferred. SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: (MUST be realistic, neither overstated nor understated, and related to the essential functions of the job.) *Comfort working directly with people in the community setting and potentially discussing sensitive healthcare issues with confidentiality. * Creative, flexible, sound judgment, and ability to take initiative and work well within a team. * Excellent time management, strong attention to detail, and organizational skills. * Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively. * Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact professionally with culturally and educationally diverse staff and clients. * Positive attitude, ability to show empathy and compassion. * Proficiency/mastery in written and verbal English language. * Bilingual/bicultural, especially in Spanish, encouraged to apply. * Compliance with all MGH/MGB Human Resources Policies and Procedures related to job title. * Proficiency/mastery of CHW core competencies in providing supportive non-clinical care in patients with co-morbidities including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes mellitus, asthma, substance abuse and other chronic disease *Proficiency/mastery in effectively building health equity through communication, cultural responsiveness, professionalism, patient advocacy, public health application, limit-setting, motivational interviewing, conflict resolution and harm reduction. *Good verifiable driving record, reliable transportation record and able to freely travel *Demonstrated technical experience with or willingness to master electronic medical record, Microsoft Word, Excel, web browser, digital platform and dashboard basics. Experience with REDCap preferred. *Experience conducting chart reviews, managing lists, and documenting notes LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS (if applicable): Specify minimum credentials and clearly indicate if preferred or required. * Completion of a CHW comprehensive outreach education program (e.g., CHEC, BPHC) is strongly preferred. WORKING CONDITIONS: Describe the conditions in which the work is performed. In office, and in communities in and around the greater Boston metropolitan area including Lynn, Revere, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Dorchester, Mission Hill and Roxbury where our CBOs are located. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: List the number of FTEs supervised. None required. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: Indicate financial "scope" information, i.e.: size of budget, volume, revenue, etc. None.
