The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is seeking a student-centeredMedical AssistantII to assist in supporting our growing Medical Assistant Program. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about helping others learn, dedicated to serving students, and possesses strong communication skills.This position will assist in our classroom setting providing essential assistance to our Medical Assistant Program Instructorand students in a medical assistant training program. This hourly position supports hands-on clinical instruction by preparing classroom and lab environments, setting up equipment and supplies, assisting during skills demonstrations, and ensuring a safe and efficient learning environment. The role also includes supporting student engagement during practical sessions. Key Areas of Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain classroom areas for clinical skills instruction.
- Set up and break down medical equipment, simulation materials, and supplies.
- Assist instructors during hands-on training and competency assessments.
- Maintain inventory of educational supplies and request restocking as needed to the Medical Assistant Program Instructor.
- Provide support to students in practicing clinical skills under instructor guidance.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and organized learning environment.
- May assist with administrative tasks such as attendance tracking and scheduling.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 1. Knowledge of medical records documentation requirements. 2. Knowledge of medical instruments and supplies. 3. Knowledge of routine oral, rectal, and injectable medications. 4. Knowledge and ability to perform CPR and emergency care procedures. 5. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality. 6. Ability to maintain a courteous and respectful approach toward patients, visitors, and fellow staff members. 7. Ability to work safely and willingness to comply with special safety and health precautions including universal precautions. 8. Ability to provide care regarding patient condition and age. 9. Ability to use supplies and equipment in a cost-efficient manner. 10. Ability to maintain personal appearance in accordance with dress code. 11. Ability to be punctual, dependable, and flexible. This may include altering work schedule to meet unit/patient needs. 12. Ability to read and understand instructions and guidelines and to read data indicators. 13. Percent of Time: Hourly/PRN Schedule:Class sessions:Monday - Thursday,Variable hours with standard hours consisting of 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM, with occasional hours of 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM due to classroom/training needs, No weekends, No holidays, and no-on call time. - CertificationORregistration as a Medical AssistantORcompletion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program,ORCompletion of a health care profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program including but not limited to: pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology and medication administration including dose calculation and psychology.
Special Qualification/License:
- Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
- Demonstrated excellent written/verbal communication.
Desired Requirements
- Minimum 3 years experience as a Medical Assistant
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Teaching experience with knowledge of course development, instruction, evaluation, and academic advising.
- Previous teaching/education experience in a medical setting.
- Experience with digital tools for teaching, teaching in either online or blended/hybrid formats, and teaching to students of varying backgrounds and abilities preferred.
- Previous teaching/education experience.
- Demonstrated leadership and training skills (might include but not limited to: recent lead medical assistant experience, etc.)
- Previous preceptor experience.
