Early Childhood Educator - SPARK Program

Overview:

Schedule: Part-time, 20 hours per week

Must pass a motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications and training set forth by Nationwide Children's Hospital and must maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.

Job Description Summary:

The Parent Partner is responsible for providing pre-kindergarten literacy and numeracy services and interventions to children and families eligible for the SPARK Program. The Parent Partner is responsible for maintaining highest standards in educational practice in alignment with ODE's early childhood standards and adherence to the SPARK model. The Parent Mentor is responsible for adherence to policies, procedures, guidelines and standards of SPARK and Nationwide Children's Hospital.

In addition, the Parent Partner assists the education director in planning, evaluating, and controlling program services and ensuring that internal and external standards are met.

Job Description:

Essential Functions:

Expertly uses and serves as a resource for the educational processes and assessments, and SPARK Program specific competencies, to:

  • Recruitment of children and families eligible for the SPARK program.
  • Provide home and virtual visits to children and their parents/guardians
  • Successfully achieve reliability with evidence- based pre-K literacy assessment tools- ASQ, ASQ-SE, Ready to Read, PENS-B and others as determined by the Nationwide Children's or the SPARK program.
  • Develop therapeutic relationships with children and their parents in a home visiting environment with a case load of up to 40 (based on FTE) clients. Provides monthly face to face contact with children and families.
  • Assess educational, physical, emotional, social, and environmental needs of children and their families as they relate to the SPARK domains.
  • Develop individual learning plans for SPARK children and families.
  • Complete data documentation and communication on cases/client load , scores and assessments within require timelines according to SPARK guidelines.
  • Provide support and linkages to resources for children and families
  • Consult and collaborates with other SPARK parent partners involved in providing services to children and families.
  • Cooperates in review and analysis of the data reports for achievements and areas for improvement.
  • Significant time spend in setting up visits, family communication, confirmation.
  • Ensures strict confidentiality regarding all matters involving children, families and SPARK team members.
  • Manages various technology platforms to effectively deliver virtual lessons
  • Ability to work evenings and weekend hours, as well as travel as schedule dictates.

Education Requirement: Bachelor's Degree in early childhood education or equivalent.

Licensure Requirement:

Valid Ohio driver's license with proof of auto insurance

Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS office, FileMaker Pro and virtual platforms such as Zoom, WebEx, Microsoft Teams.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple families' heavy caseload and experience with in-home visitation.

  • Experience in community-based work with underserved familiespreferred.

  • Strong data analysis and analytic thinking. Ability to build relationships with community residents at all levels as part of program management.

Experience:

  • 5+ years' experience in early childhood education. Home visitation experience preferred.

  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) helpful but not mandatory
