In Student Leadership and Engagement, we facilitate purposeful involvement and leadership development that supports and enhances students' academic experience. We engage students in meaningful and memorable involvement experiences that create a sense of belonging, and we equip them with the knowledge, tools, and experiences to practice socially responsible leadership and contribute to a global society. Student Leadership and Engagement, serving the entire student body, provides leadership and vision for coordinating various forms of student involvement and engagement within
DASA at NC State University.
The department encompasses co-curricular leadership programs and initiatives; student organization management, education, and development; student governance; large scale campus programming; global engagement via Alternative Service Break, service, and civic engagement coordination; campus-community partnerships; academic courses; and a robust student intern program. |
Essential Job Duties |
Reporting directly to the Associate Director for Student Leadership & Engagement, the Assistant Director for Student Leadership Development will be responsible for the following:
Leadership Development & Program Coordination
- Lead and establish goals and objectives for the leadership development team to provide high-quality and meaningful leadership development activity in the areas of workshops, curriculum, retreats, speaker series, and online and hybrid learning in partnership with the Associate Directors and Director.
- Develop leadership and training curriculum for leadership activities, including possible academic courses.
- Lead the leadership development team in the creation of materials for leadership development activities and training.
- Guide the implementation of all SLE leadership programs.
- Plan, execute, and assess signature student leadership programs and events, including NC State's annual ACC Leadership Symposium and other university or community-wide activities.
- Support the strategic vision for Student Leadership and Engagement efforts around leadership development of student leaders, student organization officers, and student employment within the department.
Student Training & Development
- Guide SLE student intern and leader training, including summer and winter retreats, in partnership with SLE supervisors and colleagues.
- Coordinate the Leader of the Pack scholarship program.
- Co-plan the end-of-year student leadership awards in partnership with SLE colleagues.
- Supervise graduate assistants and/or student staff responsible for leadership development activities and initiatives.
Assessment & Research Integration
- Utilize current research on leadership theory, models, and development to develop a comprehensive student leadership curriculum.
- Actively contribute to the development of a culture of evidence by developing and utilizing student learning outcomes to assess and promote student learning and development.
Collaboration & Institutional Representation
- Represent Student Leadership and Engagement on university and community committees as appropriate.
- Represent Student Leadership and Engagement to DASA and NC State regarding leadership development and high-quality student employment activities.
- Facilitate collaboration and the development and sustaining of partnerships on- and off-campus.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Master's degree in Student Affairs, Education, Leadership, Organizational Development, Higher Education, Business Administration, or related field.
- 2 Years of Experience in Higher Education or related fields.
- Experience supporting student leadership or curriculum development in higher education.

Other Required Qualifications |
- Demonstrated experience with leadership training and development.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
|
Preferred Qualifications |
- Effective leadership skills, with the ability to coach, advise, supervise, train and mentor.
- Strong understanding of student development and leadership theories.
- Strong public speaking and facilitation skills for leading workshops and training sessions.
- Prior experience supervising student employees or graduate assistants.
