Location: Oak Ridge, Tennessee - Department of Energy

Type: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Full-time, Day Shift

Compensation: $32.03 - $32.03 per hour

Tessera is seeking a dedicated and hard-working ECOMS Technician with a positive attitude.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the vehicle electronic communication systems, which consist of multiple Radio Frequency (RF) systems that include Very High Frequency (VHF) and Ultra High Frequency (UHF). Systems also include the use of satellite communication, cellular, and alarm systems. Additionally, the technician is responsible for programming radio and electronic equipment, as well as using RF test equipment.

  • Responsible for various light and siren systems in the vehicles and trailers. Procedures and Maintenance specific to these systems are documented in reference matrices located on the OST-Web.

  • ECOMS Technicians shall support additional vehicle scheduling for non-mission activities, including but not limited to Drive Training and Check-Ride testing.

  • Perform complex diagnoses, repairs, maintenance, and modifications to ground data/communications equipment.

  • Repair or replace control devices such as switches, copper and RF cable connectors, proximity sensors, pushbuttons, etc. as needed.

  • Perform work order repairs, inspections and adjustments, equipment installation, and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.

  • Will provide two (2) person control on all sensitive items.

  • ECOMS Techs are expected to work as a team with the maintenance techs to reduce overall service time and expedite the repair and service cycle.

  • Clean the vehicle and service the vehicle with fuel.

  • Keep accurate trip logs.

  • Assist with loading and unloading equipment, properly storing and inventorying equipment parts and supplies.

  • Must be able to read, understand, and follow procedural manuals, electronic schematics, and wiring diagrams to ensure proper diagnosis and repair during scheduled services.

  • Must exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs.

  • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of daily work.

  • Communicating with customers - always be courteous and communicate professionally when talking with customers.

  • Responsible for proper storage, use, and distribution of classified material and equipment.

  • Participate in safety, health, and environmental programs.

  • Maintain professionalism both in appearance and demeanor.

Qualifications:

  • Six (6) months of electronics maintenance experience preferred.

  • FCC license (GROL) or equivalent preferred.

  • Experience with electronics, LMRs, and maintenance practices preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.

  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.

  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.

  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

Requirements:

  • A valid state driver's license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera's insurance.
