Description

The Finance Department Intern will work under the supervision of experienced accountants and gain practical experience in varied accounting principles and practices. The Finance Intern will be responsible for filing, organizing financial records, assisting with reports, invoicing, and purchase requests. And will work under the Accounts Payable Manager and will learn the basics of our general ledger software, chart of accounts, department codes, and vendor coding, as well as the basic accounting cycle within accounts payable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Assist with purchase requests, approvals, and purchase orders
  • Support invoice processing, matching, and manager approvals
  • Help with payment processing and transaction recording in the general ledger
  • Participate in vendor reconciliation, reporting, and financial analysis
  • Organize and maintain financial records and documentation
  • Collaborate with team members on ad hoc projects and reporting tasks
  • Shadow professionals across Finance units, including:
  • Grants Accounting
  • Fixed Assets
  • Budgeting
  • Real Estate Accounting
  • Payroll
  • General Accounting and Treasury
  • Other duties as assigned


MARGINAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Intern will learn;
  • Fundamentals of accounts payable and the accounting cycle
  • Use of general ledger software, chart of accounts, and vendor coding
  • Real-world application of financial principles and reporting tools
  • Cross-functional collaboration and communication in a professional setting


EDUCATION



  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current enrollment in college level coursework (Finance, Accounting, or related field)


QUALIFICATIONS



  • Completion of at least two basic college-level finance or accounting courses
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Eagerness to learn and contribute in a team-oriented environment
