As the Assessor Clerk l, you will provide administrative support to the Exemptions unit by reviewing and preparing exemption files, valuation change documents and reports, facilitating various exemption processes, and providing customer service to Maricopa County property owners and their representatives.

We Require

  • Two years of work experience in an office environment
  • High school diploma or GED
  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

We Also Value

  • Associate degree or higher
  • Experience in the real estate, appraisal, or related field
  • Experience reviewing real property legal descriptions or title research
  • Experience with an Ad-valorem agency

Job Contributions

  • Processes, researches, audits or verifies, maintains, updates, and retrieves data for various tax inquiries
  • Research all possible data sources to gather pertinent historical information necessary for the task assigned. Generates reports, tracks data, and provides administrative support to appraisers and the appraiser division's objectives
  • Determines the significance and importance of various types of data gathered to assist staff in determining exemptions
  • Processes legal documents and information changes for specialized areas of parcel splits, document coding, permits, parcel numbering, appeal file preparation and research, acreage or square footage calculation, ownership research, exemption certificate filing, and researches unusual, special, or unique cases
  • Answers inquiries from or initiates contact with taxpayers, appraisers, other government agencies, or private sector businesses about commercial, residential, agricultural, or personal property. Applies official interpretation of statutes and regulations and applies to daily procedures and identifies possible misinterpretations or procedural concerns; assists the public in understanding the property valuation/tax process
  • Sorts, prioritizes, and directs inquiries and correspondences. Files numerous types of documents into various filing systems
  • Searches all possible data sources to gather pertinent historical information necessary to assist staff in determining property values, including but not limited to appeal and permit tracking systems, exemptions, ownership history information, Metroscan system, interactive GIS parcel maps, aerial photographs, and property titles, permits and legal descriptions gathered from Treasurer, Recorder,
    and other jurisdictions' shared access systems
  • Audits and enters statutorily required information as to update valuation, ownership, parcel history file, permit, exemption, or GIS records
  • Supports other divisions within the organization with similar clerical functions, as needed, to ensure the accuracy and timely updating of all Assessor records
  • Completes or assists in the completion of correspondence and reports
