SR. POSTGRE SQL DATABASE ARCHITECT

Job Summary

VSolvit is seeking a highly experienced Sr. PostgreSQL Database Architect to support enterprise and government environments, bringing a deep understanding of PostgreSQL database design, security, and performance optimization. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, documentation, and communication skills, and will play a critical role in driving data architecture strategies for mission-critical systems.

This position requires an active DoD Secret clearance or higher and compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements, including a CompTIA Security+ (CE) certification.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage robust PostgreSQL database solutions across enterprise and DoD environments.
• Architect scalable and secure database systems, incorporating best practices in data modeling, normalization, indexing, and performance tuning.
• Lead efforts in PostgreSQL replication, partitioning, and high-availability configuration.
• Ensure database environments meet DoD security hardening requirements, including compliance with STIGs and other applicable cybersecurity frameworks.
• Design and maintain comprehensive backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Provide technical leadership in architecture reviews, data governance discussions, and integration efforts with adjacent platforms and systems.
• Administer and optimize cloud-based PostgreSQL deployments (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure Database for PostgreSQL).
• Document database architecture decisions, standards, and procedures in accordance with program and compliance requirements.
• Collaborate closely with cybersecurity, DevOps, and application development teams to ensure database integrity, performance, and security.

Basic Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship Required
• Active DoD Secret Clearance or higher
• CompTIA Security+ (CE) certification
• 7+ years of hands-on experience with PostgreSQL database design, implementation, and management in enterprise or government settings
• Deep expertise in:
  1. PostgreSQL architecture and internals
  2. Data modeling and schema design
  3. Indexing, query optimization, and performance tuning
  4. Replication, partitioning, and high availability
• Experience with cloud-based PostgreSQL services such as AWS RDS or Azure Database for PostgreSQL
• Proven experience in implementing and auditing database security controls and STIG compliance
• Strong documentation, presentation, and communication skills
• Ability to lead and mentor junior database engineers and contribute to cross-functional team collaboration
• If applicable: If you are or have been recently employed by the U.S. government, a post-employment ethics letter will be required if employment with VSolvit is offered

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting U.S. Navy, DoD, or federal programs
• Knowledge of DevSecOps integration and CI/CD pipelines with database components
• Familiarity with containerized database deployments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes with PostgreSQL)
