About the Position Are you looking for the opportunity to work in a team environment and utilize your administrative and technical skills to provide excellent customer service? Join our team of Development Services Technicians at our Air Quality Department!
As a Development Services Technician, you will be the primary entry point to the department for the regulated community. You will have the opportunity to assist customers in accessing the air quality services they need to submit permit applications, make notifications and payments, and complete registrations. You will also be an important internal team member in managing the department's database and disseminating information to internal and external stakeholders. Your work will contribute to the department's mission to improve the air of Maricopa County so customers, residents, and visitors can live, work, and play in a healthy environment. We Require
- Two years of clerical and customer service experience
- High school diploma or GED
We Also Value
- Associate's degree or higher
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills
- Experience accessing and managing databases
- Experience reviewing permit applications
- Experience interacting extensively with external customers, coworkers, and the public to effectively convey information
Job Contributions
- Acts as a primary point of contact for businesses, contractors, individuals, and government entities at the counter or over the phone by explaining the County's online permit process, regulatory requirements, and coordinating and tracking the progress of applications
- Understands and communicates instructions on how to set up an account for stationary source permits (Title V, Non-Title V, and General/ATO), dust permits, asbestos notifications, open burn permits, tanker truck certifications, and subcontractor registrations at the counter or over the phone
- Applies policies and procedures in determining initial completeness of the application and other submittals; provides customer assistance as necessary; provides notifications to, and communicates with, permit applicants
- Performs initial basic research as applicable for supporting permit documentation and information. Recommends actions or modifications to correct defects or inadequacies to facilitate project compliance and approval
- Develops and demonstrates knowledge of internal and external systems, applications, websites, and other electronic systems Handles customer complaints and resolves problems at the counter or over the phone; provides quality customer service while functioning in a regulatory capacity
- Follows established procedures to process documents successfully
- Performs functions at the reception desk: answers phones, routes calls to correct person/area, checks voicemail on a regular basis
- Processes and assigns incoming/outgoing mail, maintains an organized filing system, keeps update logs and spreadsheets for tracking, and conducts daily administrative tasks
Working Conditions
- Must have the ability to move objects lifting from the floor to the waist (up to 25 pounds) and pushing/pulling (up to 50 pounds). Must manage frequent interruptions, time pressures, high work volumes, multiple and complicated tasks, unscheduled tasks, team-oriented activities, prompt decision-making, and interaction with government officials and the public. Must constantly maintain concentration, accuracy, ethical behavior, and a professional demeanor
- Exerting up to 10 lbs. occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time
- Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
