SUMMARY/OBJECTIVES This position will be in support of one of SouthState's most prolific business units and be a critical member of the team to ensure ongoing growth of the business line and remarkable client experiences. Under the direction of the Director of Government & Not-for-Profit Banking, this position is responsible for supporting the new client development and relationship management activities for the team. This position is responsible for, but not limited to, serving Government & Not-for-Profit Banking professionals, as well as a secondary support role to those professionals located in the Bank's broker-dealer (SouthState|DuncanWilliams) in the Public Finance department, throughout the client origination and management processes. ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITES AND ACCOUNTABILITES This position is expected to perform the specific duties, tasks, and responsibilities as outlined below:
Uphold the Bank's Core Values and Guiding Principals and deliver these in a professional manner to the local government and not-for-profit clients that we serve. Work to enhance the Bank's reputation in the marketplace and further define our unique value proposition to the marketplace. Supports senior teammates and deal teams in developing complex financial models and providing analytical support including analyzing financial statements and projections, and developing and participating in credit screening, loan structuring and prospect pitching efforts. Creates and utilizes analytical financial models, including financial projections, discounted cash flow analysis, municipal bond sizing for new money offerings as well as potential refunding/restructuring, as well as financial analysis of historical and projected cash flows. Performs research and analysis on government, not-for-profit and corporate entities, industries and transactions in support of both client activities and risk mitigation strategies, utilizing all of the internal and external resources available. Assemble and maintain propriety and non-proprietary data resources, to include detailed industry information. Conduct research on current and prospective clients utilizing all available transactional information. Ensure that all work prepared is timely and turned around within department guidelines and with the utmost accuracy. Monitors the financial position of established clients and brings opportunities and irregularities to the attention of senior teammates. Works to create a constructive workplace environment that expands positive culture and enhances the Bank's Core Values. Develop strong working relationships with other members of the Commercial and Corporate banking teams in order to realize cross-departmental opportunities for clients. Undertakes special projects related to job function as determined by the Government & Not-for-Profit Bankers; as well as those within the broker-dealer in Public Finance. Participates in community related activities. Ensures that the Bank's and the broker-dealer's policies and procedures, Code of Conduct, and regulatory guidelines are strictly complied with. Provides aid to other employees by liaising with them through healthy and positive interactions. Continuously updates skills by participating in professional training and development. Seeks opportunities to improve skills through cross-training offered by the Bank. A bachelor's degree in business, finance, or accounting is recommended to have a good understanding of financial statements and to make industry evaluations. Finance/accounting related work experience of at least five years in lieu of a college degree in business, finance, and accounting. Skills and Knowledge:
Strong oral, written and interpersonal relationship management skills Sound credit / risk management judgment Proficiency with PC software including Microsoft Excel Excellent organizational and teamwork skills Proven track record of working in a cross-functional environment. Knowledge of financial and accounting concepts to evaluate financial models, client audits and operational risks. Knowledge in financial statement analysis and understanding of client cash flow cycle and risk management considerations Strong organizational and leadership skills with proven ability to multi-task and meet deadlines Understanding of Operating and Financial Risk Management
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS/CLASSES Required annual compliance training; procurement of appropriate licensing to deal in the municipal securities industry; and continuing education for all requirements. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to remain seated or work standing in a confined area on a computer for a minimum of four (4) hours each workday Must be able to constantly use hands and fingers to enter data through or on a computer or answer a phone throughout most of an eight (8) hour shift Must be able to hear and communicate with coworkers and customers throughout the day May need to lift to 25 pounds one to two times a day to perform job Position may require regular before/after normal business hours, or regular out-of-town travel.
