JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Signature Volunteer Programs Manager Status: Full-Time

Department: Volunteer Engagement Grade: 27

Position Overview: This position will develop, manage and execute United Way's largest, signature volunteer programs and events while identifying and designing new opportunities to further expand our work through service and volunteerism. This position will lead the implementation and oversight of the Stratus Live volunteer platform and building and maintaining strong relationships with key initiative and funded partners to maximize collective impact.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS and EXPECTED PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES

VOLUNTEER AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

  • Lead, manage and scale (where needed) United Way's largest signature volunteer events and programs including but not limited to: United Way's Backpack Coalition, Holiday Giving Tree, Diaper Bank and Winter Bites Family Packing Event. This includes identifying strategy and alignment, managing project budgets, and collaborating with key partners and stakeholders.
  • Lead the research, development and implementation of additional signature volunteer experiences in alignment with United Way's key initiatives and funding priorities, looking for ongoing opportunities to creatively engage the community in our work. Reach out to additional United Way's within the network for best practice and idea sharing.
  • Lead and manage the strategic implementation of the volunteer engagement component of the Stratus Live platform collaborating with IT, Community Impact, Volunteer Engagement and Resource Development departments.
  • Lead and manage the development and evaluation of volunteer kit packing/resource mobilization strategies that meet community resource needs and align with funding priorities in partnership with the Community Impact Division.
  • Serve as the liaison to funded partners and key initiatives. Cultivate relationships with volunteer engagement staff at those organizations to align volunteer experiences and opportunities to collaborate with United Way.
  • Manage United Way's Volunteers United platform, ensuring content is updated and relevant, periodically checking in with partners and reviewing postings.
  • Collaborate with Resource Development in understanding, promoting and securing needed sponsorships and resources for Volunteer Engagement Signature events, including soliciting for sponsorship and in-kind support, as appropriate and required.
  • Serve as the division liaison to the Community Impact Division and work in partnership to develop volunteer projects that align with United Way's key initiatives and funding priorities
  • Manage custom project product procurement and purchasing in addition to overseeing budgets and working closely with local and national vendors on strategic partnerships to best grow our efforts.
  • Cultivate new relationships with important community organizations, key initiative and funded partners to strengthen connections to United Way through volunteerism efforts.
  • Support Volunteer Engagement's strategic priorities for growth.
  • Serve as a brand ambassador for United Way at external and community events, as needed and requested.
  • Increase United Way presence and brand awareness among assigned stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and analyze agency/community engagement year-over-year to determine future priorities and opportunities for growth.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Expected Outcomes: Positive and collaborative relationships are built with agency and key initiative partners. Signature programs, events and volunteer experiences build awareness of United Way's work and priorities and deliver an unrivaled experience for all donors and customers.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires a bachelor's degree with 4-6 years' experience in volunteer/community engagement and/or nonprofit program management.
OTHER SKILLS

  • Demonstrated experience in customer service and relationship building.
  • Excellence in public speaking and written communications.
  • Experience in fundraising, securing sponsorships and soliciting gifts in kind is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and think strategically.
  • Superior project management skill set & ability to multi-task.
  • Experience in mobilizing financial, in-kind and people resources to meet program needs.
  • Demonstrated skills in preparing and managing project budgets in alignment with work plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Comfort level with utilizing technology resources and tools
  • Valid Driver's License, personal vehicle insurance, a clean driving record, and comfortability with driving cargo vans (training provided).

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard, reach, stoop and occasionally kneel.

  • Light to moderate lifting is required up to 50lbs. (such as managing/moving volunteer engagement project supplies).
  • Ability to uphold to the stress of traveling (in designated positions).
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required; including evenings and weekend hours as needed.
