POSITION SUMMARY

This position will hold a critical leadership role overseeing all aspects of engineering operations, maintenance, utilities, planning, Base area Services and facility management. Your primary objective will be to ensure the seamless operation, safety, and upkeep of our resort's, owned, and managed facilities, including lodges, base area and general equipment, and other essential infrastructure, along with oversight of planning and all self-performed construction activities. The position will develop best practices for protecting and maintaining/increasing our assets' values and extending asset life.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Engineering Strategy and Leadership: Develop and execute comprehensive engineering strategies, plans, and policies aligned with the resort's objectives. Provide visionary leadership to the engineering team, ensuring adherence to industry best practices, safety standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and day-to-day operation of all resort facilities, including lodges, parking areas, and other critical infrastructure. Establish preventive maintenance programs, implement effective asset management practices, and prioritize work orders for optimal efficiency.
  • Identify, prioritize, and manage capital projects and lifecycle management. Lead the long-range capital planning process related to infrastructure and facilities, integrating asset lifecycle management principals to guide investment, renewal schedules, and project prioritization in alignment with resort wide strategy.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, building codes, and safety standards. Develop and enforce robust procedures to safeguard the well-being of guests, employees, and contractors. Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Develop and manage the department's annual budget, including capital expenditures, maintenance expenses, utilities, and staffing costs. Own strategic financial planning and forecasting for engineering and facility functions, aligning departmental budgets with enterprise-wide capital planning, ROI driven maintenance strategies, and long-term operational sustainability. Monitor expenditures, identify cost-saving opportunities, and optimize resource allocation while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Provide executive leadership across diverse technical functions, including engineering, trades, utilities, building systems, and environmental operations, ensuring talent development, cross functional alignment, and high-performance execution across the resort.
  • Develop and implement strategic facilities partnerships to support long-term maintenance goals and capital investment. Oversee relationships with external vendors, suppliers, and contractors. Negotiate contracts, monitor service quality, and ensure timely delivery of contracted services.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance environmental sustainability within the resort's engineering, maintenance, and facilities operations. Identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption, waste generation, and carbon footprint through innovative technologies and practices.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans to manage unforeseen incidents and adverse weather conditions. Collaborate with the resort Emergency Management Team and relevant stakeholders to ensure effective communication and quick resolution of any emergencies or disruptions.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends, technologies, and industry advancements relevant to engineering, maintenance, and facility management. Identify opportunities to leverage technology and innovation to enhance operational efficiency and guest experiences.
  • Other duties as assigned


CMMS & Preventative Maintenance:

Provide strategic oversight of the resort's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), ensuring data-driven prioritization of resources, comprehensive preventative maintenance programs, and long-range asset care planning.

Day-to-Day Operations & Work Orders:

Provide strategic direction for resort-wide engineering and facilities initiatives, ensuring alignment of maintenance priorities with guest experience, safety and operational continuity. Empowering departmental managers to lead day-to-day operations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in engineering, maintenance, and facility management within the hospitality or tourism industry, preferably in ski resorts or similar environments.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage a diverse team.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, construction practices, and building codes.
  • Experience in collaborating with stakeholders to create hiring strategies to develop quality teams.
  • Must be knowledgeable about industry trends, best practices, and change management.
  • Proficient in capital project management, budgeting, and cost control.
  • Ability to implement long-term strategies to meet SSRC carbon emissions reduction and renewable energy goals.
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems for best equipment performance and tracking energy consumption with the goal of reducing energy use.
  • Familiarity with ski resort operations large building footprints and lodging properties, and mountain infrastructure and climate.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with meticulous diligence.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, external partners, and regulatory authorities.
  • Familiarity with environmental sustainability practices and initiatives.
  • Ability to interact and maintain positive relationships with guests, co-workers, and management consistent with SSRC's Service Excellence standards.
  • Ability to problem-solve effectively and maintain positive relationships with guests and staff, including management, subordinates, and co-workers.
  • Develop a recruiting strategy aimed at closing the gap between existing workforce skills and those required to operate effectively in the future.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, facilities management, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.


The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on a range of factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives.

Steamboat base salary range: $155,000 to $190,000 per year
