Job Summary

The Getty Foundation makes grants to increase access to museum and archival collections, advance art historical scholarship, conserve works of art and architecture, and train the next generation of arts professionals. The Grants Programming team at the Foundation consults with experts at Getty and across the globe in art history, museums, and conservation to identify needs in the field and devise creative solutions that can be achieved through strategic funding.

We are seeking a thoughtful, energetic, and detail-oriented professional interested in the work of arts philanthropy to join our team as a Program Assistant. Previous experience in arts philanthropy or grantmaking is desirable but not required for this position.

Reporting to the Senior Program Officer responsible for grant initiatives for museums and museum professionals, this position will support all aspects of grantmaking, from project development and application review to implementation and impact assessment. The role involves a high degree of contact with museums and non-profit arts organizations regionally, nationally, and worldwide.

The Program Assistant will join a dynamic program team dedicated to advancing Getty's philanthropic activities in the arts globally. Our campus is filled with art and special collections, regular talks and programs, and a world-class research library. We offer paid vacation, every other Friday off, excellent benefits, and a commitment to balancing work and personal life. This position offers the opportunity to travel nationally to conferences annually and additional opportunities for professional development.

We work onsite, and the Program Assistant is required to reside within a commutable distance of Getty. However, the Foundation offers a hybrid telework policy, for which this position would be eligible, based on satisfactory job performance. Support for relocation costs is not provided for this position.

Note: A writing sample is required to apply for this position. Please either include a link or attach a one-to-two page writing sample (can be from a review, essay, blog post, or brief excerpt from a thesis or longer work) to the end of your resume before uploading.

Interested applicants should apply by 11:59pm (PDT) on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
