Description

Construction Safety Engineer Intern shall provide assistance to the Safety Director, Field Safety Engineers, and field personnel with compliance oversight support of the IHC Safety Program at the various construction site(s).

Essential Functions and Responsibilities for Construction Safety Engineer Intern


  • Monitor safety efforts of IHC employees and subcontractors.
  • Oversee the issuance and execution of "New Hire" safety documents and other division specific information/documents to all new IHC employees.
  • Enforce the company safety rules and compliance regulations at the designated jobsite(s).
  • Work closely with office and site management to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Maintain, distribute, and demonstrate the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Assist with the coordination of project safety "Tool Box Meetings" for IHC employees on a weekly basis.
  • Assist with guidance and awareness training related to construction safety and facilitate safety meetings as needed.
  • Assist with site safety inspections and recommendations for hazard abatement.
  • Inspect and maintain fire prevention equipment and first-aid supplies.
  • Assist with the investigation of incidents, accidents, and near misses that occur on projects and prepare written report of findings.
  • Maintain accurate records, such as but not limited to, OSHA 300 Log and employee training logs.
  • Assist in the management and implementation of the Drug Free Workplace Program including pre-employment, post-accident, and random drug testing.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner with subcontractors, vendors and project owners.




Preferred Certifications and Skills for Safety Intern


  • OSHA Certifications - OSHA 500 (501,502,510), 30 Hour Card
  • Knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards (29CFR 1926)
  • Good written and oral communication skills. Ability to use judgment and experience to define, analyze, and resolve problems and issues.
  • Computer Skills - MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint




Experience/Education


  • Pursuit of Safety /Construction Safety Management degree and/or professional safety certifications.
