Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The primary purpose of the University Police Department is to protect the lives and property (real and personal) of all personnel and visitors who frequent the campus. This unit must enforce all applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as, the University rules and regulations. In addition, this unit must patrol and secure the grounds of North Carolina Central University by responding to calls and/or complaints and file reports on all incidents. |
Primary Purpose of Position |
The primary purpose of this position is to monitor halls and office during the working hours; providing customer service; providing information and assistance for visitors and stranded motorists; providing first-aid and transportation for an injured and sick person; testifying in court; traffic and criminal prosecution and testifies at university hearing or student court; patrolling parking lots and university campus or state institutions to detect fires; prowlers, vandals or other unusual conditions; identifies and deters crime, violations or potential hazards during assigned shifts hours. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
The successful candidate must possess:
- Ability to deal courteously but firmly with the general public
- Ability to act quickly and intelligently in emergency situations
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
- To take initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion
- To learn, interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions
- To exercise judgment and discretion in problem-solving
- Ability to work flexible schedules
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills along with written and oral communication skills

Minimum Education/Experience |
High school diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Some positions may require a valid NC Driver'S License. |
