Unique Skills:

DUTIES: Be responsible for software quality assurance of the company's control law software. Ensure plans and standards of control law software development comply with DO-178 and DO-331. Author and maintain Control Law Software Quality Assurance Plan. Review software life cycle artifacts to verify they have been developed according to plans and standards. Ensure control law-based problem reports and change control practices adhere to the software Configuration Management Plan. Document non-conformities to ensure development issues are contained, corrected, and prevented. Proactively assure data integrity. Provide training and develop lesser experienced staff on DO-178/DO-331 and their best practices. Provide status of software quality assurance activities to the EAR (FAA delegated certification authority). Present results of software quality assurance-based activities during Stage of Involvement (SOI) audits by certification authorities.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field required. Thirteen years of experience in aerospace industry research and development required. Five years of experience with the definition, implementation, and execution of DO-178 based quality assurance activities required. One year of experience with closed-loop control system software development, testing, validation, verification, and DO-178 certification required. One year of experience writing software requirements and requirements-based test procedures required. One year of experience with Requirements Management Tools (IBM Rational/DOORs) and Version Control Systems (i.e., SVN, Git) required. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field and thirteen years of experience, Employer will accept a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field and eleven years of above-listed experience or a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field and nine years of above-listed experience.

Must have legal authority to work in the U.S. EEOE.

Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related curriculum applicable to the respective job position required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. 13 yrs specific technical discipline or 15 yrs broad eng experience in several technical disciplines with Bachelors. Experience credit considered for related adv degrees limited to 2 yrs for Masters and 4 yrs for PhD in fields applicable to this job. Position Purpose: Works on engineering projects containing critical problems, the solution of which requires major technological advances and extensive related development

Principle Duties and Responsibilities: Essential Functions:
  1. Responsible for an entire engineering project of major complexity within established scope .
  2. Makes technical decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have an important impact on extensive engineering activities .
  3. Applies advanced technical principles, theories and concepts based on broad expertise or unique specialized knowledge .
  4. Leads the development of innovative principles and ideas .
  5. Acts independently to determine improved methods and/or procedures to optimize technical product, cost and schedule requirements .
  6. Works under consultative direction; uses independent judgment to accomplish objectives .
  7. Develops standards and guides for diverse engineering activities .
  8. Conceives and plans investigation of broad areas of importance for which engineering precedents are lacking in areas critical to the program .
Perform other duties as assigned. Other Requirements:
  1. Advanced degree in engineering or related curriculum preferred.
  2. The level of technical skill and abilities appropriate for this grade will be established by each discipline.
