OVERVIEW

The Director of Project Engineering & Planning will be responsible for leading and managing the Project Engineers and Project Planning Specialists within the Engineering Organization. In this role, the successful candidate will work within a cross-functional matrixed environment and lead by influence to accomplish organization-wide goals. The Director will be accountable for high quality, on-time delivery of technical deliverables in support of customer specific requirements, execute productivity initiatives, identify, and develop innovative execution solutions that meet business needs, manage challenging issues within the organization, and contribute to business strategy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership and technical direction to the Project Engineers and Project Planning Specialists teams in the flawless execution of all design and drafting aspects of Commercial Metal Buildings projects. This includes the delineation of work orders and labor hours, project schedule, budget, and related internal and external customer documents and change orders, and providing support to Sales, Customer Service, Engineering Operations, Engineering COE Directors, Supply Chain and Manufacturing.
  • Build and maintain engineering workload/capacity planning to facilitate the allocation of resources of appropriate kind and adequate number across different offices to support projects execution
  • Work with Engineering Operations to develop operational KPIs and proactively monitor and manage metrics with focus on productivity, labor cost and asset management
  • Manage, monitor, and report project schedule, progress, execution and anticipated lead times, on-time delivery, and budget status to the VP of Engineering
  • Manage the improvement of operating efficiencies at key points in the Project Engineering process. Ensure assigned tasks meet scheduled targets/commitments.
  • Forecast resource loading and report potential resource constraints.
  • Ensure that the MOC process is followed and generate MOCs as required.
  • Develop a global approach to determine the appropriate allocation strategy to ensure mix of global, contractor, and domestic resources are in line with the overall organization targets and strategic direction of the business.
  • Develop mitigation plans as necessary to offset risks to schedule, production targets, and commitments.
  • Execute projects and initiatives as Engineering Shared Services by collaborating with other COE leaders to ensure proper allocation of resources of appropriate kind and adequate number across different offices to support project planning, forecasting, and capacity management
  • Proactively work and partner with Human Resources to drive training programs, short- and long-term career paths, succession planning, and mentorship programs.
  • Establish team performance expectations and solicit feedback regularly from peers and stakeholders.
  • Manage the human resource functions of assigned team including, performance appraisals, engaging employees in process improvement initiatives and coaching and counseling team. Recommends hiring, firing and salary and job change actions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in project execution and planning
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a managerial capacity over engineering organization(s) or project engineering leadership.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer preferred
  • Experience with Primavera P6 preferred
  • Experience in industrials, manufacturing, and/or building products preferable.
  • Solid knowledge of Engineering disciplines, process design tools and procedures
  • Ability to influence leadership to adopt new ideas, products, and/or approaches
  • Ability to perform under pressure and lead multiple departments/ projects concurrently
  • Good level of understanding of technology, digital solutions, & model base engineering
  • Strong process improvement background. Six Sigma Certification (preferred)
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Strong people management, performance management, and knowledge and experience in organizational effectiveness and engineering management
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi tasks
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong business acumen/orientation and assertive interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Skilled in writing and presenting to senior management
  • Exceptional PowerPoint and Excel skills
  • Detail oriented
