Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Senior Data Analyst within the Academic Affairs and Research-
RBHS Department.
The Senior Data Analyst provides administrative, analytical, computing, and staff support for the
SVCAAR and other departments within the
RBHS Chancellor's Office. In this role, the Senior Data Analyst also executes assignments and tasks requiring data collection, information gathering, data entry/retrieval, and database maintenance utilizing a variety of software and analytic techniques. Additionally, the Senior Data Analyst prepares and/or compiles data for special reports and analysis, including the compilation and handling of confidential information and documents related to collective negotiations. In support of these efforts, the Senior Data Analyst assists in the review, analysis, and appraisal of current department administrative data and procedures, organization, and performance and helps to prepare recommendations for changes and/or revisions; does other related work as required.
Among the key duties for this position are the following:
- Executes assignments and tasks requested by the Offices of the RBHS Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research, and Senior Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration (and other University stakeholders including the Office of Senior Vice President and General Counsel, the Office of Academic Labor Relations, and the Office of Labor Relations) requiring data collection, information gathering, data entry/retrieval, database maintenance, form and graphics generalist utilizing a variety of software (including information needed for collective negotiations and other employment-related matters).
- Analyzes complex sponsored research and programs administrative data generated by units, identify variances, and develop reports.
- Develops and maintain customized Tableau-based dashboards and other data visualizations to provide clear and concise summaries for senior leadership.
- Conducts regular integrity checks of source data and relevant data feeds.
- Engages with internal and external stakeholders, business managers, grants specialists, and others to reconcile data inconsistencies and errors, utilizing both analytic and communications skills to handle these interactions promptly and professionally.
- Ensures integrity of research and sponsored programs data and analyze errors to inform or recommended updates to policies, operating procedures, or systems.
- Optimizes processes by which sponsored research and programs data is gathered, validated, manipulated, and evaluated.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree and at least three years of relevant work experience in business analytics, data management, computer programming and/or statistical analysis is required and/or Master's Degree in relevant discipline (computer science, mathematics, statistics, business administration, finance, engineering, applied social sciences or a similar field required with advanced analytics training) and at least one (1) year of experience in business analytics, data management, computer programming and/or statistical analysis.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Extensive knowledge of data management and manipulation, data analysis techniques, and developing data visualizations in the context of a complex data systems.
- Proficiency with business intelligence (Bl)/database/data analysis software applications, such as Tableau, Microsoft Access, and/or Excel.
- Ability to prepare summary and graphical presentations for senior administrators to clearly articulate results of complex analyses.
- Outstanding attention to detail and ability to document work.
- Must be able to work with a wide range of individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives on data usage including faculty, staff, and senior administrators.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; tact, and diplomacy are essential for working collegially and maintaining productive working relationships with business managers, grants specialists, and other senior administrators to promote best practices.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, and priorities simultaneously and to meet challenging and changing deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience working with large datasets and developing insights across multiple data sources. Technical knowledge for improving system performance, capacity, reliability and scalability of data visualization and reporting solutions.
- Experience with Python, Spark, and/or SQL to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
- Experience in applying statistical concepts and analysis tools (e.g., R, SAS, STATA, SPSS) to develop insights from large data sets.
- Familiarity with sponsored research and programs submissions and awards, such as grants and contracts, from Federal, state, corporate, and private funding sources.
- Ability to understand, test, and improve the processes by which data is migrated among the University's legacy mainframe system, Oracle databases, existing research administration and proposal procession system (RAPSS), and other relevant databases and interfaces.
