JOB DESCRIPTION Position: NOAA Contract Security Guard - Temporary part-time Reports to: Kodiak Land Patrol Supervisor Department: Kodiak Operations/Land & Forestry FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Kodiak operations NOAA contract: Security Guard Job details Compensation $22.15/hourly Job Type Temporary part-time General Description: The purpose of this job within the organization is to perform a variety of routine and complex work to enforce the security and protect the property, personnel and resources of NOAA research vessels while in port, in compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines and policies. This job works under close to general supervision according to established NOAA practices that determine how or when to complete tasks. Duties and Responsibilities: The functions listed below are those that represent much of the time spent working in this job/class. Management, or the Commanding Crew of the vessel, may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job/class as necessary. Job Description: This position is responsible for protecting designated people and places and should report noteworthy incidents to the company as they occur. This position will also ensure that safety equipment remains in excellent working order. Essential Functions: 1. Ensure building occupants and visitors comply with posted rules and regulations. Discrepancies shall be immediately reported to the company or their respective officers. 2. Monitor and enforce the personal identification and visitor control system. 3. Perform facility patrols and facility checks in accordance with routes and schedules as directed. 4. Turn off unnecessary facility lights, lock, unlock, or open windows, doors, gates, and cabinets and enforce energy conservation procedures and other related duties. 5. Answer telephones and take messages. 6. Keep uniforms clean and professionally presentable. 7. Direct traffic, both vehicle and pedestrian, and control parking. 8. Detect and immediately report, persons attempting to gain unauthorized access to the property. 9. Prevent, if possible, unusual incidents, and detect and report damages, accidents, fire hazards, and violations of the security procedures. 10. Obtain professional assistance in accordance with procedures in the event of injury or illness to personnel or others while in the building or on the grounds. 11. Staff the security office and monitor security cameras. 12. Prepare a written report at the end of each shift. Contractor shall be responsible for maintaining these records for the term of the contract. 13. In the event of an emergency condition, notify designated personnel. 14. When required, provide security guard coverage on a shift basis for 24/7 service. 15. Other administrative or miscellaneous light duties, with patrol or other assigned duties. 16. Ensure all information provided regarding this contract is kept in a reading file at the guard station and is maintained by the contractor. This file shall be read and signed by each security guard when first assigned to the position and monthly thereafter. 17. Provide completed and error-free daily security and incident reports. The security guard contractor shall maintain a complete file of these reports. 18. Provide transportation for guards to and from site. 19. Implement annual random drug-testing program of 25% of the Contractor's employees. Test results shall be furnished to the company. 20. Comply with the requirements of the DoD Contract Security Specifications outlined in the DD Form 254. 21. Must have 1 -2 years of prior security officer experience. A clear criminal record is required. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: A strong commitment to the well-being of others is necessary to be successful in this position. Must have the ability to work calmly and efficiently, particularly when under duress. A neat, professional appearance and the ability to work on your feet and navigate stairs for extended periods is necessary. Must have the ability to work a variety of shifts. Unavoidable Hazards: Involves routine and frequent exposure to loud sounds, vibration, stairs, ramps and inclement weather. May be exposed to fumes and hazardous materials when working with mechanical equipment and tools. May require use of PPE (personal protection equipment) (e.g. earplugs, safety glasses, hardhats, reflective vests), supplied on site, and to know their proper usage and storage locations. You are not required to perform hazardous work, but there are hazardous situations to be aware of and protect yourself from at all times.
