The Neuroscience Institute (NI) was launched to bring together faculty and staff from across the University to conduct multi-disciplinary work to advance the state of brain science.

We are seeking a Research Lab Manager. This position will oversee day-to-day operations of the Smith Lab NHP research, coordinate experiment scheduling, surgical procedures, and animal care logistics.

Core Responsibilities
  • Maintain and troubleshoot neurophysiology computers and rig set ups, including neural recording instruments, with a focus on system efficiency and data integrity through IT best practices.
  • Manage lab inventory, order supplies, and ensure timely restocking.
  • Support data management workflows and help maintain organized, accessible experimental records and lab manuals.
  • Assist when needed in data analysis or processing.
  • Ensure adherence to animal regulation protocols and institutional safety and compliance standards.
  • Assist in writing and updates to protocols.
  • Maintain compliance, record-keeping and ordering for controlled substances.
  • Train and onboard new lab members (students, postdocs, and staff).
  • Work with NHP Facility PIs to plan surgeries, allocate resources, and establish aftercare plans.
  • Manage NHP Facility surgical supplies, surgical equipment and sterilization equipment maintenance and documentation related to surgical procedures.
  • Provide assistance in NHP facility surgical preparation and support during emergencies.
  • Train and mentor NHP facility research staff in surgical preparation techniques (e.g., intubation, IVs, ventilator use, vitals monitoring) and anesthesia recovery.
  • Train and mentor NHP facility research staff in NHP behavioral training procedures.

Qualifications
  • Associates Degree; Bachelor's preferred but not required
  • 3-5 years experience in laboratory operations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • A combination of education and significant experience from which knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
