About the Job

The Academic Writing and Learning Center (AWLC) at the University of Minnesota Duluth seeks a full-time, nine-month, term faculty member (annual renewable contract) at the Instructor/Assistant Professor level. Appointments begin August 18, 2025, and end May 17, 2026.

Position Description:
A full-time faculty position responsible for developing and teaching credit-bearing academic support courses (e.g., tutor training, mentoring, study skills, time/stress management, etc.) either face-to-face or online as well as working collaboratively with team members to coordinate one or more of the student services offered by the Academic Writing and Learning Center, beginning with UST 1000 Learning in Community. Coordinating duties could include, but are not limited to, recruiting, training, and scheduling class instructors and peer leaders; record keeping; and assessing the program. This is a full-time, 9-month position with the possibility of summer augmentation. Some service, as relevant to the department, is expected.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

* Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution
* Minimum of two years' teaching experience as an instructor of record in higher education
* Excellent communication skills
* Evidence of excellence in teaching in higher education (e.g., course evaluations, supervisor observations, etc.)
* Familiarity with college-level academic support programs (e.g., writing center, tutoring center, first-year experience, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

* Education beyond a Master's Degree
* More than two years' teaching experience in higher education
* Experience with college-level academic support courses
* Experience managing or coordinating college-level academic support programs (e.g., writing center, tutoring center, first-year experience, etc.)
* Experience with inclusive pedagogies
* Experience analyzing data
* Experience promoting programs and services
* Experience with assessment
* Experience with teaching technologies (e.g., Canvas, Zoom, etc.), Microsoft Excel, and/or website design/maintenance

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $45,000-$52,000 Annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
