Director of Metal Fabrication

We are seeking a seasoned and highly skilled Director of Metal Fabrication to join our leadership team. This strategic role will be responsible for driving the operational and technological advancements in our metal fabrication processes, including tube mills, laser cutting, welding, and fabrication of packaging and racking solutions. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in the metal fabrication industry, with hands-on experience across diverse sectors such as automotive, technology (solar, servers), glass, transportation, and heavy equipment. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead innovative initiatives within a growing organization at a Business Unit level.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy Development:

  • Lead the development and execution of the long-term strategic plan for metal fabrication operations.

  • Identify opportunities for growth, process improvements, and innovation across all areas of metal fabrication.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align fabrication strategies with overall company goals and market demands.

Capital Expenditure Management:

  • Develop and oversee the capital expenditure budget for metal fabrication equipment, technology, and infrastructure.

  • Ensure timely and efficient allocation of resources for investments in machinery, technology upgrades, and facility expansion.

Vendor Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors, negotiating contracts and terms to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and reliability.

  • Evaluate and select new suppliers and partners to enhance the capabilities and competitiveness of the organization.

Procurement Strategy:

  • Design and implement procurement strategies for sourcing materials, equipment, and components required for metal fabrication operations.

  • Manage supply chain activities to ensure uninterrupted production and adherence to project timelines.

Equipment Technology Integration:

  • Stay abreast of cutting-edge advancements in fabrication technologies (e.g., automation, laser cutting, robotics) and evaluate opportunities for implementation.

  • Lead the integration of innovative equipment and technology to optimize fabrication processes, improve efficiency, and reduce costs.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other departments (such as Sales, Operations, and Engineering) to ensure the fabrication division meets customer requirements, timelines, and quality standards.

  • Provide guidance and leadership to the fabrication team, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

Operational Excellence:

  • Continuously monitor performance metrics and operational data to ensure production targets and quality standards are met.

  • Implement lean manufacturing principles and other best practices to drive efficiency and reduce waste.

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Lead and mentor a team of managers, engineers, and technicians to ensure high levels of performance, engagement, and professional growth.

  • Promote a safety-first culture, ensuring compliance with all industry safety standards and regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 10+ years in the metal fabrication industry, with a strong background in tube mill operations, laser cutting, welding, and fabrication. Experience working in packaging, automotive, technology (solar, servers), glass, and transportation equipment sectors is preferred.

  • Leadership: Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and managing large-scale fabrication operations at the Director level or higher.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Management, or a related field. MBA or advanced technical degree preferred.

  • Location: This position can be located anywhere in the Southeast.

  • Skills:

    • Strong understanding of capital expenditure management and procurement strategies.

    • Expertise in vendor management, contract negotiation, and supplier relationship management.

    • Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.

    • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills
